Jungkook sat at the conference table, carefully observing Taehyung and Seokjin. There was definitely something going on between the two of them. He was almost sure of it. Seokjin would listen to the speaker attentively and then his gaze would shift ever so slightly to Taehyung, who in turn would curl his lips into a half smile.
Yes, there was definitely something. The two thought they were good at hiding it but Jungkook could feel the tension in the air between them. Over the next two days, he watched them some more. At one point he even followed Taehyung to Seokjin's vanity van when he thought no one had seen him.
Jungkook watched as Seokjin opened the door to his van, dressed only in a loose robe, tied carelessly around his waist. Jungkook would bet his whole life savings that he was naked underneath it. He watched how Seokjin pulled Taehyung into the van and slammed the door closed quickly.
They stayed in there for almost an hour. When Taehyung returned to his makeshift office, Jungkook noticed how his clothes seemed wrinkled and his hair looked messy. On the pretext of showing him some fabric samples, Jungkook leaned in and took a whiff at Taehyung. It was then confirmed that the two were in an intimate relationship, as Taehyung reeked of sex.
Jungkook's heart sank. He had nursed a crush on Taehyung since college but was too chicken to admit it to him. The other day, he had bravely approached Taehyung to ask him out but Seokjin had stolen him away on some pretext over a forgotten meeting.
"Kook? Are you okay? You just spaced out there for a moment," Taehyung told a startled Jungkook. He seemed to have lost himself in his thoughts.
He apologised and was about to walk back to his station when he felt a hand tug on his shirt.
"Kook....what's wrong? I know something is bothering you. Talk to me," Taehyung implored. "Is it about the other day? You wanted to go on a date with me? Are you angry that we didn't go out?"
Jungkook sighed heavily. He put his face in his hands and sniffled slightly. "I'm sorry Tae. I don't know what's come over me. I-I like you Tae. I like you a lot. But I can see that you have a thing with Seokjin. I don't want to interfere or anything."
Taehyung pulled Jungkook closer to him. "Kookie, we are friends. I like you a lot. But I like you as my friend. Jin and I...it's a bit complicated. We don't know what we are to each other yet. We're still trying to figure things out. I hope you understand."
Jungkook sniffled a little, his eyes wet with tears, but he nodded his head. "I'm sorry Tae. I won't bother you about this again. It's my problem, I'll deal with it."
With that, Jungkook walked away from Taehyung as quick as he could. Taehyung tried in vain to talk to him but Jungkook was as stubborn as he remembered him being. Over the following week, Jungkook became more distant and only interacted with Taehyung if he had to for work. They stopped their lunch time getaways and coffee meet-ups. Things began to shift in their relationship.
Taehyung tried very hard to talk to him but Jungkook was just too hard headed. Eventually Taehyung gave up but it hurt him to see his friend this way. He no longer was the smiling, happy-go-lucky guy he used to be. And Taehyung felt responsible for this.
He spoke to Jin about it too but other than approaching Jungkook about their real relationship and explaining things to him, they found no other recourse since Jungkook actively avoided them as much as he could.
"This is really affecting you love? I feel responsible for how I handled things. It's not fair to Jungkook. He is your friend. I should have been more understanding. I'm sorry love." Seokjin was saddened when he saw how this was affecting his lover.
"It isn't your fault baby. Jungkook needs to deal with this in his own way. I tried everything I could. Maybe he just needs time."
They were sitting in the shaded patio of Jin's hotel room in Miami. Their outdoor shoot had been postponed due to the inclement weather. It was raining pretty hard, so they couldn't achieve much at the beach today.
"Maybe you're right love. Time does heal sometimes but other times, all it does is fester wounds. I had no idea Jungkook felt this deeply for you."
"Believe me, neither did I. I just looked at him as a friend, nothing more. But now I feel so guilty. I hope he can get over this and we can go back to how we were before."
"I hope so too." But Jin thought on his own experience with Taehyung. He had been in love with him since they were little. He'd known exactly how he felt about Taehyung but he had been oblivious for years. Could Jungkook be going through a similar thing? Maybe, his feelings weren't as intense but it still seemed plausible.
The two lovers shared a passionate kiss before Jin had to leave to rehearse his lines. Taehyung decided to use his free time to look for Jungkook. He found him sitting at the bar staring at a glass of whiskey.
"Hey Kook! Can we talk, please?"
"Sure. What's up?" Taehyung could see the smile he turned on him was forced and fake.
"Jungkook, I-I just want you to know, that no matter what, you're still my friend and I really care about you. I want to see you smile again, really smile, and not this fake ass shit you're doing right now."
Jungkook laughed lightly, still nursing his drink that he hadn't touched. "Never could get anything past you except my feelings hey." Jungkook sighed heavily. "Don't worry Tae. I'll be fine soon enough." He got up from the bar without taking a swig at his drink. He didn't need it. "I'll just go to my room then."
"Kook! Wait! Let's hang out. Just you and I. I miss you. You're important to me."
Jungkook just shrugged but didn't decline. Taehyung took that as affirmation and linked his arm with his friend, dragging him out of the bar. They headed for the hotel gym and spent a good amount of time working out before showering and meeting up for an early dinner.
Before long, Jungkook was laughing and cracking silly jokes with Taehyung again. It felt like old times. Taehyung hugged him sincerely and went to join Seokjin in his room. He felt better and more at peace with himself as he made his way to the room, only to find that Jin was not alone. The door was slightly ajar and Taehyung could make out the sounds of a heavy argument. But why did the voice screaming at Jin, sound so familiar?
Taehyung moved the door slightly and his eyes widened in disbelief.
"Father?"
