Camryn POV:
We rushed back to get Dale and T-Dogg. The woman on the horse gave us directions to their house where Carl and dad was. Said that her dad was helping him and that he was still alive. While trying to talk to the others and get them on board of leaving to go to Hershel's farm, Carol decided that she wasn't leaving. She made a point, what if Sophia was to come back there? What if she came back and we weren't there? Dale made it a point also that we were scattered and weak, we were better off together with the others than alone. Andrea, Dale, and Carol all decided to stay at the highway with the RV for the night in case she came back so we could have time to make her a sign and leave her some supplies.
Glenn and T-Dogg took Carol's jeep and Daryl and me on the motorcycle. The whole way there I found myself praying, praying to God that Carl was okay and that it was just a misunderstanding. Praying that they had him stable and that he was going to make a full and speedy recovery. When we got there it was worse than I thought, shot through the stomach. When I got there Mom and Dad were sitting beside Carl, one on each side. They said that the only thing that Hershel was waiting on in order to do the surgery was for Shane and Otis, the man that shot Carl, to get back from their supply run to get the medical supplies needed for safe surgery. But as we waited patiently for Shane to return, we stood outside the door and heard Carl cough. He was awake.
"Where are we?" He asked; I don't think that I've ever seen my parents so happy in their life.
"This is Hershel" Dad said "He's going to help"
"You guys should have seen the deer" he told us "It was so pretty..." just then he started shaking. He was having a seizure.
After it was all over, Dad had gave Carl 3 blood transfusions, I had to get outside. I had to get fresh air. Daryl followed. I stood there leaning against the porch railing, him beside me. He wrapped his arms around me with my head on his chest. Why does this world have to be so shitty? We stood like that for a while until we heard a vehicle pull up, finally, Shane was here with what Hershel needed for the operation. Shane informed us that the man that he was with didn't make it, my heart cried out for his wife.
It felt like forever sitting on the porch. Nobody said a word, we sat there in silence while Hershel performed a surgery on my brother. The first human he has ever operated on and it had to be my baby brother. It felt like days had gone by before Hershel came outside and told us that he was stable. Mom and I walked in there to be with Carl while Dad and Hershel went to tell Otis's wife that he was dead. We could hear the faint crying that floated down the halls. There was so much pain in her cries that you could almost feel the hurt that she was going through. May he rest in peace finally.
The next morning the others showed up, we all gathered around for a small memorial service for Otis. Shane spoke, as he was the last one with him. Gave some sad story that I'm sure nobody believed. Knowing Shane, he probably risked Otis's life to save his own; how can someone be so heartless?
After the service most of us gathered into a group and discussed what we were going to do about Sophia, Maggie brought out a map and it was decided that dad wouldn't be hiking to look for her, he donated so much blood to Carl yesterday. Shane's ankle left him in no condition to be wandering around looking for anyone. Daryl informed us that he would start by the river and make his way up.
This land that Hershel owned, it's so beautiful and looks completely untouched. For a second if you close your eyes and just breathe in the fresh air, it feels like the old days. Before the shit hit the fan, before everyone was dying in front of you and then coming back to life just to be put down again. Before you had to fight to live it's just so peaceful. I could stay here forever. As I stood there taking it all in and remembering the good times, I heard footsteps. I turned around to see Hershel's daughter, Maggie on a horse with a lead on another one. I don't care how old I am, I'm petting the animals.
Maggie and Glenn went on a run and I went inside to sit with Carl, he was in and out, probably from some pain meds from Darly's bag. I sat there and talked to Carl while he was awake, we talked about what life was before this, I reminded him of the trip that we took to the grand canyon when he was a baby, I was probably about 8 or 9, we never made it. We had to turn around and go home because he wouldn't stop throwing up, of course being young I thought that it was the end of the world but little did I know that the end was soon to come. I wish I would have had more time to live and see the world before seeing how bad it could turn. I wanted to graduate, possibly go to college, get married and have babies with the love of my life and now I see that it'll never happen. Not traditionally at least. Before I realized it Carl had done fell asleep while I was still talking, I never knew I was that boring but alright. I walked outside and went over to where the others were standing.
"WALKER!" Andrea yelled as she stood up from her seat on top of the RV
"Just one?" My dad asked
"Yeah I can get it from here" she told us holding up the sniper
"Put the gun down" he said as him, Glenn and Shane went towards where the walker was in the distance. Hershel has done told us all that he didn't want any guns on his property, we are guests here and we all know that we need to respect that.
Even after she was told to put the gun down she still aims it at the walker and shoots.
"NOO!!" We heard someone scream in the distance. The look on Andrea's face instantly changed.
"I just shot Daryl"
