"Chloe! I can't believe he likes you!" Sofia screams through the tiny speaker, geez she could blow out my eardrum if she continues this yelling.

"Yeah I know, I didn't even know, especially after that snort." I say annoyingly remembering me snorting in class. Gosh I am surprised he still wanted my number.

"Well you going to prom?" Sofia asks. Of course, all she ever worries about is makeup, boys, and prom.

"Uhm, I don't know me and Grace were thinking of just staying home and watching all of the Twilights, so" I say and she smacks her lips, I swear I can see her rolling her eyes through the phone.

"Twilight?" Sofia laughs.

"Yeah?"

"Oh okay."

"Well what's wrong with it?"

"Nothing, just that it's f**king over rated." She says and I roll my eyes.

"Oh yeah I forgot you like those chick flicks." I say annoyance in my tone.

"Okay damn we have different things we like, you don't have to be like that." She says, and I sigh.

"I know sorry." I say and she says its okay.

"Anywaaayyy, when are you going to go out with Tom." She says and I smile at the mention of his voice.

"Uh. Sofia." I say placing the phone between my ear and shoulder.

"What? I mean come on." She says and my phone starts ringing on another line.

Mrs. Matsoto. What was she calling me for? She never calls me, except when she invites us over for dinner, but I don't think Grace wants us over there so I decline the call.

"Okay anyway, what were you saying?" I ask Sofia and she continues on about some hook up she had last weekend, and I begin to find myself wondering why I have never met Sofia's mother. I mean we have been friends since forever, and she has never told me of nor showed me her mother. Before I can stop myself I ask Sofia a question.

"Hey where's your mom?" I say, and cover my mouth right away and I can hear her voice break over the phone.

"Uhm she is out of town." She says and her tone is faltering when she tries to change the subject.

"I was just asking because I never met or seen your mother, and we have been friends for a long time." I say and she sighs.

"Yeah, she uhm she's in the military." I hear her say, but it's almost like her mind is focused on something else, other than this conversation.

"Sof?" I ask.

"Hmm?" She hums softly into the phone.

"Are you okay?"

"Mmhm." She says and hangs up the phone. Oh maybe I shouldn't have asked. Of course you shouldn't have, duh. Anyone who has a friend and their mother is never around would know that. You never over step especially if you haven't seen their mother in all the years you have been friends. Well thanks sub-conscious.

I grab my phone out to text Grace about prom. Okay, I know I told Sofia I already had plans, but I mean come on, I am not going to prom, for what? Just to embarrass myself, no thanks. The phone goes straight to voicemail and I call one more time, voicemail. Her phone must have died. I look at the time and it is now 2:45 in the afternoon and I am still in my slouch clothes. I decide I should take a nap so I walk to my bed and rest.

...

Ring Ring Ring

I open my eyes and it is now dark out. My phone continues ringing and I grab it, only to see Mrs. Matsoto's name on the screen once more. I rub my eyes to make sure I am seeing this completely right. Yep that is what it says as I go to answer it, the phone stops ringing. I look at the time and it is now 4:56 p.m. Why was she calling me this late? I call her back and she picks up the phone on the first ring.
