Amanda's POV
It had officially been two weeks since Liz had talked to me. I'd been doing a lot of thinking since then, mostly about, well, my sexuality. I'd always been accepting of anybody, even though my stepdad provided plenty of barely-masked homophobic comments. But would I date a girl?
I guessed if my soulmate was a girl, that probably meant yes. And suddenly I really wanted to see her. I was composing the message in my head, getting ready to pull my phone out and send it, when suddenly my phone buzzed in my pocket. It was Liz.

Hi! I'm sorry I haven't been here the last couple weeks. I hope you haven't done anything like THAT again. I've just been thinking a lot, and I'd really like to see you, if you're okay with that.
It was almost identical to my message. I laughed out loud.
I was literally just about to ask you the same thing. Yeah, let's meet up! When can you? And where?
Lol that's amazing. Soulmate thing ig. Anyways, I can legitimately meet you in thirty minutes. Hemming Park okay?
Yeah I actually live across the street from there. Lmao
Wait what??? The apartment that I'm planning to rent is there too.
Whoaaaaa damn. That's crazy. I own an apartment that's most likely in the. Same. Complex. OMG
Holy shit!
Yeah, freaky.
Damnnnn. But now I really gotta go get ready. See you in 30?
See you in 30.
I flopped backwards on my bed and squealed silently. Liz and I were going to meet! And what's more, we were probably going to live in the same flippin' apartment complex. That's crazy. Whoever picks the soulmates must be great at their job.
Only one problem- I had almost nothing clean. Clothes were scattered around my bedroom, hanging off of chairs and piled on the floor. There was even a shirt hanging off my closet doorknob. I chuckled at myself, got up, and started searching my closet for a suitable outfit.
I ended up with skinny jeans and a t-shirt underneath my winter coat (a hoodie I bought during a trip to Texas). It wasn't the best outfit, but it worked okay. I left the apartment and headed to the park.
On my way, I wrote on the back of my hand.
Cool. I'm at the heart bench.
Well. Now I didn't have to look for her. I found the heart bench and immediately noticed a short blonde girl sitting there. I took a deep breath and steeled myself before taking a seat next to her.
She looked over at me and her eyes lit up. "Liz," she said, putting out her hand.
"Amanda," I said with a smile, reaching for her outstretched hand. "Nice to finally meet you."
I don't know exactly what I was expecting, but when our hands touched, I could swear I saw sparks. Her hand was warm and her touch inviting, and I had to stop myself from leaning closer and just collapsing into her arms.
"Amanda..? You okay?" Liz's voice broke me from my stupor.
"Yeah, yeah, sorry," I murmured, extracting my hand from hers. "Just thinking."
"Excuse me if this is out of line," she began, sounding nervous, "but you're really pretty. Like, extremely pretty. You're literally gorgeous- sorry, I'll stop now."
Her face flushed a deep red which must have mirrored the one on my cheeks because of her compliments. I fussed at my hands and grinned shyly. "Thank you. You're... really, really pretty as well."
She flushed an even darker shade of red, something I wouldn't have thought possible. "Thank you!" she replied, ducking her head beneath my gaze. "I really appreciate it."
We sat in awkward silence for a moment, my mind scrambling for things to say, before finally deciding on something.
"Hey, do you like Korean food by any chance? There's a place down the road..."
"Are you asking me on a date?" she asked with a giggle, causing my face to sear red.
"N-no, I'm-"
"I'm just teasing," she interrupted, grabbing my hand and pulling me off the bench. "I love Korean food. Let's go!"
I grinned and let myself be pulled along the street.
