eight weeks...

Jack had gotten a job. He was sick of sitting around doing absolutely nothing but browsing YouTube all day, and decided to get a job. It wasn't anything exciting, just bussing tables and taking orders at a small inner-city diner. Jack kinda liked it, because he got a free meal on his break and the patrons were all nice people. His boss paid him fairly, and it gave Jack a chance to socialise more, and get to know some of Sam's co-workers a little better.

He'd been working there a little over a week when it was robbed the first time.

"Alright everyone get down on the ground!" A loud gunshot sent everyone down, screams coming from the group of high school girls there for their lunch. Jack dropped down behind the counter, one of three staff on that day. "Just stay the fuck down and nobody's gonna get hurt!" Jack let out a barely audible gasp when a rough hand grabbed the back of his t-shirt, hauling him up from behind the counter.

"Fuck!" Jack gasped, holding his hands up when a gun was pointed straight at his face.

"Open the register now!" The masked man barked, shoving the gun into Jack's back.

"A-alright!" He opened the register and emptied it into the bag on the counter in front of him, his hands shaking. Apparently, he wasn't moving fast enough though, because the gun was shoved into his back harder, and he let out another startled gasp as he finished. "That's everything. I-I swear!"

"You better not be lying to me, kid." The gunman threatened. Jack's eyes were wide in terror, and the gunman sent him sprawling across the floor as the siren's sounded, making his escape. As he lay there on the floor, his hands covering his head and police cars pulling up around the diner, Jack felt true fear for the first time in his short life.

After taking Jack's statement, Joe dropped the young man home. Jack wasn't expecting anyone to be home since Dean and Sam were both at work, Claire was studying at the library and Cas was out job hunting, Jack was surprised to find Claire sitting on the sofa with her schoolwork around her and some random playlist playing from the speakers. Upon hearing the front door shut, Claire looked up and saw Jack.

"Aren't you supposed to be at work for a couple more hours?" She asked as he crossed the room, heading for the fridge.

"Something came up." Jack muttered, hoping to god she wouldn't push because he wasn't in the mood. "Just let it go."

"What happened?" Claire asked, voice serious. "You look rattled. You can tell me anything, you know that right?"

"I said drop it!" Jack snapped, eyes glowing golden for a moment before he let out a gasp, snapping his eyes shut. Before Claire could say anything else the front door opened.

"Jack?" Sam called, sticking his head into the living room and sighing out in relief when he saw him. "Thank god. Joe told me what happened."
