I got off the bus with Tamiaka and we headed to my house.
"And he said Marcus is bad? What's bad about him?" Tamiaka questioned.
I sighed, "Girl, I have no idea. I don't know whether to believe him or not. I mean Marcus is cute and cool. I have no clue what's wrong with him."
"Well Marcus and De'Mario used to be bestfriends. Best friends like back in diaper days. But around middle school, De'Mario and him stopped being friends. I don't know why but that may be a reason."
"Should I asked Marcus about it?"
"No girl. De'Mario is just jealous you're not hanging out with him. Don't trip about it. Now go order some pizza. I'm hungry." And just as she said that her stomach growled.
We laughed, "See! Tryna starve a bitch!" Tamiaka howled.
I laughed some more and flipped her off and dialed Pizza Hut. But in the back of my mind I couldn't think to wonder about what happened between them. Was it about a girl? Or what? Did Marcus do Mario wrong? Or the other way around? I feel like I should ask but I don't want to be nosy. Deep in my thoughts I heard the bell ring. I got up from the couch and grabbed the money. I got to the door and opened it but it wasn't the pizza man. It was Rylen and Lina.
"Hey guys, come in." I told them.
"Hey bae." They both said at the same time.
We all sat back in the living room, waiting for the pizza.
I spoke up, "So Lina, what your mom say about you getting suspended?"
She snorted, "She was so mad at me. She was like 'Lina usted sabe mejor no meterse en peleas.'"
We all looked at her funny.
"Oh shit. I forgot y'all don't speak Spanish. She said Lina you know better not to get into fights. She got over it since it was already done. She said I just better not get into anymore fights."
"Yo mama cool as hell man." Tamiaka said. "What about yo foster mama Rylen? What she say?"
She just shrugged. "Not a goddamn thing. You know she don't give a damn."
As she said that I started to feel bad. Rylee is an orphan. Her mom started crack after she had her little brother, Sam. And her dad was killed 10 years ago. So after her mom was caught with the coke, Rylen and her brother went to a foster home. Her story is so sad but Rylen is strong and I respect her for that.
We all nodded our heads and continued to watch 'Bring it'. The pizza finally came and we ate and just sat and talked. It was around 10pm when my phone rang. It was Marcus. I answered.
"Hey, Wassup?"
"Hey Ty'Lyla... I was calling to ask if you wanted to go to the movies tomorrow? To go see Beyond The Lights with me?" He sounded so shy. I smiled through the phone.
"Sure. What time?"
"It started at 8 so I'll pick you up around 7:30. Is that cool?"
"Yeah that's fine."
It sounded like he was holding his breath for my answer. He breathed out a good. And he said he'd see me at 7:30.
"Alright. Bye Marcus."
"Bye Ty." And he hung up.
"Was that Marcus chica?" Lina asked, wiggling her eyebrows.
"Girl you know that was Marcus. Look at her face! She red! Looking like a damn tomato!" Tamiaka said, adding her two cents in.
