CHAPTER 10 My Life as a Teenage Evan

"Ky Madison is so cool." That's what I first said to myself when I saw her. (And luckily no one heard me, or else I would have started receiving VERY strange looks from all directions.)

She was tall without having to wear six-inch heels, like most girls do. She stood out - in a good way. She was wearing baggy jeans that hung low on her waist - the way some guys dressed - her hands in those low pockets of hers. She had a black jacket over a white hoodie (the hood up), and a what looked like a black and white band t-shirt underneath. I wondered if she was hot in all those layers, but she had a cool grin on her face that could almost be seductive.

The second thing I said to myself was: "Why is she dressed like a guy?"

It was the first day of school, therefore, every so often someone would come by and nudge her or tap her shoulder and she would greet them with cool enthusiasm. She was friendly, and seemed to know everybody in the class. And if she didn't know somebody, then another person would take them up to her so that she could meet them. If I went up to meet her I'm sure she would have greeted me warmly as well.

Although I doubted she would ever notice me; nobody every does.

When she finally took her hood back, I - firstly - noticed that she had an ear cuff at the top of her left ear, and her hair was cropped short almost like a boy's, which - in my opinion - added to her whole "cool" look. It wasn't until the second thought after that that I noticed she was freaking hot.

Later on it became apparent to me that she was actually very popular - popular, but not stuck-up and haughty and hair-flippy (like Mandy O'Conner, who was hot too, but as materialistic as a Barbie doll).

Ky Madison was nice, and didn't seem to care about what "social status" someone was in. She didn't seem to care if her "reputation" was ruined or if her "social status" was lowered if she was caught talking to someone not as cool or anything.

And I put "seem" in Italics because at first I wasn't sure whether she was talking to the unpopular people just to make herself look nice. Like, when I saw her giving her phone number to Madelin Cho, the nerd-girl of the class, I wondered how she could benefit from it. Was there some project coming up that she would need Madelin's help on or something?

But then when Kyle Madison asked me to be his partner for the Tech project and I came over to his house and talked to Ky for the first time, I realized she was smart. Which at first shocked me; then I wondered: If she's so smart, then why would she want to make Madelin help her with anything?

Even after she had come eye-to-pretty-eye with me and told me not to say anything bad about her friends (referring to Madelin) I still thought she might just be trying to look good.

It wasn't until I'd heard about the incident where she threatened George Yole (one of the most muscliest and mean-looking guys in SCHOOL) after he'd made fun of Madelin that I realized: Oh my God...I'M A HORRIBLE PERSON!

How could I have thought of her so badly!?! Just because other popular girls are - you know - snobby and stuff, doesn't mean that all of them are!

And then I finally started to see the person she really was: friendly, kind, cool, real, and still very attractive. I began to admire her, for all her qualities and more. And when she suddenly made me a candidate for a member of the basketball team when I was too scared to speak up for myself, I wanted to jump up, grab her and squeeze her with all my might, and scream, "I LOVE YOU!"
