Nighmares

I came home from my night shift . I opened the door only to find Jason, sitting on the counter of our shared apartment, working on the laptop. "Welcome home", he says in a clearly tired voice . "Jay, it's 4am",I put my bag down and sit on the chair next to him. "Batman gave you holidays so you could rest" I start. "I can't sleep" he says staring at the screen. I put my hand on his neck to make him look at me . "Jason what is it ?" I say looking into his blue orbs. "Nothing"he says trying to look away. "Jason!" Making him look at me again. He turns to face me. There is something. He looks scared . "I have been having this dream, this nightmare, every time I close my eyes I see it". After what joker did to him, he usually had nightmares. He would normally wake up at night screaming. "Babe it's ok, it was just a dream. Joker is in Arkham now"I say trying to convince him. "It's not the joker! It... it's you.Everytime I try to sleep I...I see you die. I try to stop it but I always ....fail to protect you. No matter how hard I try. I...I always lose you"he says looking at his feet. " I can't lose you" he says looking at me with watery eyes. I give him a half smile and say, " It's ok,jay,I am here, you won't lose me. I will always be there for you" "Bu..but what if I couldn't protect you. What if I...I fail?" He says now crying. I hug him. He deserved it. He deserved so much. "You won't" I look at him. "Let's go to bed now"I say giving him another smile. I use my thumb to wipe a tear and kiss him. I felt him smile against my lips. "Ok" was the only word he managed to whisper. We went to our bedroom. He held me like a child holds his toy. I ran my fingers through his black hair. The white streak made his hair even more perfect. " I love you"he whispered and soon he was fast asleep and cute little snores were audible. I giggled to myself. Now matter how broken he was , I would always love him and be there for him. "I love you too"
