As soon as Ash took one step into his house, he wished he hadn't. The screaming had already started and it made him want to turn around and run away. Ash ignored his instinct and slowly walked towards the screams, he crept around the corner and saw his mother getting beat by his father. The room reeked of alcohol and the floor was littered with beer bottles. He gathered up his courage and ran towards his father, his own voice joining the cries for him to stop. He stood in front of his mothers infinitesimal figure, trying to withstand the pain his father threw at him. Hit after hit after hit, until he could barely stand anymore. Suddenly his fathers eyes cleared and the rage disappeared, he was beginning to sober up. A storm was raging outside, hail was beating against the windows. Ash looked his father in the eyes as he fell to his knees, "...Dad? Are you ok now?" Tears were streaming down his cheeks but his words didn't falter. His father fell to his knees and held onto his son until they both stopped crying. "I'm so sorry, I'm so so sorry Ash..." he stopped hugging ash and picked up his wife to lay her on the couch. Ash stood and limped to the bathroom to grab medical supplies to help his mom. After they treated her, Ash put a blanket over her and sat down by her side. Ash's father left the house, probably to go get drunk again. As soon as Ash closed his eyes, he was out. The rain was lulling him to sleep and the thunder in the distance was a comforting sound, like a mother calling to her child. They both said the same thing to him, over and over. "It'll get better someday." "We love you Ash." As night fell Ash was deep asleep, but the storm continued. Not able to even think of abandoning the small boy, even when asleep...
