He waits in his room.

He tries not to move because every time he does, he feels a ticking urge to look at his watch. It's face, the numbers and their power, they taunt him but his curiosity overpowers his fear and he glances at his watch once again.

4:50 am.

10 minutes left.

He finds that he takes comfort in the numbers so he does a math equation.  It's based off a probability, statistics and an algebra equation for each of the unknown variables. He loses himself to the logic of math and he feels like he may have fallen in love; but he wouldn't know for sure, he'd never felt connections to other humans. People were complicated and unpredictable.  People were scary. Numbers and letters are something you can solve, maths problems beat people problems. Still... numbers are also scary.  They hold power and not just in the exponential way. This reminded him of his problem.

His wrist twitches and his eyes follow the movement.

5:00 am.

Time's up.

The window to his left shatters but he doesn't flinch. He just sits in his chair, slumped defeat because numbers are predictable .

He is Number 61.

The monster he created is Number 64.

Like the cubed of 4, Number 64 has power, because numbers also have power.

Number 61 knows he's about to die.

He also knows that number 64 will kill him.

Why?

Because Number 64 needs Number 61 to be Number 125 which is 5 cubed and therefore,  he will be more powerful. He will no longer be 4 to the power of three, he will be 5 to the power of 3.

And that's how numbers work.

Numbers are predictable because numbers have power. Numbers need power.

So Number 64 kills Number 61 and adds on to his power.

Number 61 dies happy because numbers don't complicate things and he is a prime number, he only needed one thing in life; himself.

The rest...

Is a problem.
