AWAKE
As her eyes opened, she realised that she was still gripping the scars around her rib cage. Unsteadily, she rose and gently composed herself. She unfolded the creases in her shirt and flattened down her hair.
She strode down the long corridor with an unnatural purpose. Turning right at the end, she entered the glossy office trying to hide the grimace that her father’s face brought her. When he looked up from his large boxy computer he frowned, then tried to speak and then lastly he let out a huge gasp.
“M-M-Marina?”
Without replying, she reached for the gaffer tape lying on his desk. He was so stunned that he failed to even wriggle as she tied him tightly to his chair with the tape. She looked around the room looking for a suitable weapon. A moment later she was clutching a letter-opening knife.
She stabbed and cut and cut and stabbed… at her own wrists…
Her flesh mangled under the blunt knife and blood and sinew flew through the air. Every so often she glanced at him to bathe in her success. He looked horrified.
She carried on cutting and sawing at her body until she saw bone. Her depression overwrote any pain that would have been felt by a normal human. Finally, when the bones were protruding and there was blood enough to feed an army, she walked over to him.
Grinning, she poured the deep crimson liquid into his wrinkled mouth and down his throat. He coughed and spluttered but could not lift his head and she savoured the moment when she saw his eyes turn glassy and the shaking fade. Eventually, her eyes too became grey and her breaths no longer came. She lay down carefully and slowly and muttered to herself, “My time has come. But beware… because when you do wrong, wrong will come back to haunt you…”, and she and her father lay dead in his office in the office block which was built over her mother’s grave.
