It was night time now. Every street had a Power Hunter squad on it. They had locked down both ends of the town, nobody could come in or out. I was out perched in a tree in front of the gas station. It was lively now because of all the Power Hunters around it. They seemed to be using it as a base of operations. Why this place of everywhere they could have gone? They didn't seem to be super worried about attack though because there were practically no guards, one was out having a smoke break and he didn't even have a rifle on him. For a government agency, they seemed really care free with how they handled things. It was a little strange. Earlier in the hospital they were jumpy as all hell and now they are acting like they aren't hunting for a couple of super kids. This was really strange. Then another car rolled up into the gas station. All the Power Hunters collectively went full military, almost as if a switch was turned on inside them. The car pulled in and stopped in front of the door, one of the agents opened the door and a man in all black stepped out. Then the door on the opposite side opened. Coleton had stepped out. I tensed up slightly, his presence gave me chills down my spine. He and the man in black walked inside. The agents surrounding the place placed large wood slats in front of the window. I had to figure out what they were talking about.
I cloaked and flew over to the roof of the gas station. With my super hearing I'd be able to hear the conversation without being in the same room as them. I laid down on my stomach and planted my ear on the flat of the roof.
".....we need to find those kids sir, we set up a thirty mile perimeter with this town being the center. All roads are blocked off and anyone trying to leave gets searched. We are taking every precaution to catch them."
It was Coleton talking. A thirty mile perimeter means that Beaumont is under lockdown as well. This just keeps getting better and better.
"Well son you may be after these kids but what about this Demon Slayer you've told me about? What are you going to do with him?"
I wasn't able to get a good look at the man in black earlier but he sounded like an older guy, his voice was raspy and thick.
"Don't worry sir, we have that all figured out. You see when he attacked us earlier he was in human form for most of it. So we used the CCTV footage to get a picture of him and find out who he is. Turns out he is just a kid who lives in this town, he actually saved his school last year. Since we know who he is we were able to find out where he lives. We have a team moving in on the house right now as we speak."
Oh no, Mom is at home by herself! I need to beat them to the house or stop them. I bolted up into the sky and flew back to the house. There was a loud crack in the sky as I bolted home. I was breaking the sound barrier. I looked up the road a bit and saw a large convoy of the SUVs headed towards the house. I went demon and flew down towards them. I went up behind the car in the back and grabbed the back bumper. With a swift movement upwards I flipped the car over. The cars in front of it slid to a stop. Power Hunters stepped out of the SUVs, there were about five of them in each car. I counted a total of fifteen, not including the ones in the flipped SUV. They rushed over to the flipped vehicle, yelling at each other to help. I went down to the ground stealthily, doing my best not to alert them. They were all lined up and spaced apart a little bit. I went up behind one of them and hit them in the head hard, knocking them out. I got a couple more men like that, then someone spotted me and opened fire. I jumped out of the way of the steam of bullets. More of the Power Hunters shot at me. I cloaked and attacked them in the cover of the shadows. One by one they had dropped like flies. When the last one hit the ground I flew to the house.
When I got to the house I burst through the door.
"MOM! WHERE ARE YOU!" I yelled out.
Mom came out f her room, she was asleep when I was yelling for her. She looked startled.
"What is it Randall? Don't you realize what time it is?" She asked.
"Sorry mom but I need to get you out of here. I'll explain on the way to Nanny and Papa's place." I told her as I pulled a small suitcase out of the hall closet.
"No, you are going to tell me now!" She said stomping her foot down.
I knew she wouldn't go unless I told her what it was.
"Alright, there is a group of government agents trying to kill us. I need to get you out of here right now or else it will get really bad." I told her.
Her expression changed to a mixture of confused and shocked. I grabbed a small grey suitcase out of the closet. She took it and went to her room to pack her stuff. I walked over to the front door and watched out front to make sure nobody was coming. It seemed to be all clear at the moment. I ran down to my room and grabbed the journal and the big knife I had. I went back upstairs and Mom came out with her suit case. We walked out to the backyard, I could hear the SUVs getting closer to our house. Mom climbed on my back as the SUVs pulled into the driveway and on to the grass. We were up in the air and gone before they got inside. I picked up the speed until we got to the airport in Houston. I walked her in and paid for a ticket so she could fly out to Amarillo, I had some money left over from past birthdays. I was saving it to take Claire out. We went to her terminal and I waited with her to board her plane. I could see she didn't want to leave, but she knew I had to stay and fight. She boarded the plane and I watched her take off. I gave my grandmother a call and told her mom was flying out to Amarillo. I left the airport and flew back to Lumberton.
When I got back I flew by the house to see what they had done with it. It looked about the same but there were still the Power Hunters SUVs surrounding the place. I could easily clear out the place right now, but then they would just send more people next time. I need a place to stay for the night. Then I remembered, I have an old hideout in the wooded area. No that wouldn't work because they could easily find it with a simple search party. I need to think of a place to stay, but where? I could ask Claire. No that wouldn't work, would it? I'll sleep in the tree for now. I'll ask during the day so I don't wake them.
I was flying to the tree across from Claire's house. That is where I would stay for the night, just like last year when the demon attacked. I hated having to stay in the tree, it was cold outside and my jacket didn't do much to help me. Then I realized that those kids must be freezing there asses off in this cold. I can't really complain that much because I at least had a jacket and for all I knew they were still in the hospital gowns. It was close to summer time and the nights were colder than ice, welcome to Southeast Texas.
I tried going to sleep, but I wasn't able to. To much was on my mind, I was scared for the first time in a long time. I felt like this was a threat that I wouldn't be able to stop. I feel powerless right now and I don't know what I'm supposed to do. Coleton knows exactly who I am, where I live, where I go to school, everything. I wasn't going to be able to live my normal life until I fixed this threat. What am I going to do and how am I going to do it? I need to figure this out. Maybe Claire can help me with that in the morning. Hopefully Coleton doesn't know about her to.
