A/N: Lol this is an Omegaverse scrap that's been sitting in my drafts for ten fucking years. Hasn't been proofread, nor do I care to have it done, bc I'm done with this piece of shit. (Last updated on June 6th of 2018, this shows you just how fucking old this is.)

...

Exactly 21 days.

That would be the duration of freedom one would experience between the times of excruciating pain and awful urges... these were only two of the symptoms that came with what was considered a 'rare blessing'.

Rarity aside, it was awful to say the very least; the first time was always the worst, too. Go figure.

As a hybrid between human and Ghoul, Kaneki already had a lot to deal with. Thrown on top of that, he was an experiment; he was a toy, a tryout, the plaything of some perverse scientist that wanted nothing more than to play with genetics—he was a person who belonged nowhere in this world.

He knew quite a bit about Ghouls: the Kagune types and their weaknesses, along with their strengths; the way the creatures' eyes changed colours whenever they were feeding, using their RC cells, or fighting; down to the difference in rankings based on physical body structures and attributes, paired with combat expertise and familial alliance or societal influence.
Specific names held weight.

Names such as The Gourmet; otherwise known as Tsukiyama Shuu, or Binge-Eater… the bitch that had gotten him into this mess in the first place.

One tiny detail that he had neglected to take into account and read up on was a subject deemed as 'secondary genes'.

Humans didn't have this sort of thing quite like Ghouls, and he had yet to be informed until it was already fast upon him.

...

At the very least, it could've come gradually.

    It didn't.

It was so overwhelmingly sudden that Ken had actually lost consciousness for a moment.
The floor of the back room of Anteiku swirled and tilted, and a small sound, akin to a yelp, left him before he fell over right where he stood. This caught the attention of a certain someone, despite Ken having been in the next room over.

That extra, strange sense of protection was something that had been developed unknowingly, but this was one of those moments where they should both be thankful for it.

Upon awakening, Kaneki was faced with a pair of garnet orbs gazing at him in concern.

The Gourmet Ghoul, the very man he had been avoiding, was holding him up, knelt down on the ground where Ken had collapsed, one of his hands gently resting at the male's lumbar and the other at the back of his head.

Ken didn't have the strength to display his hesitance whenever coming face to face with him once more.

"...Tsukiyama-san..." He mumbled weakly.
"What...? Kaneki-kun, are you okay!?" Shuu asked him, slightly panicked.
"I feel... dizzy..." Said the one-eye, reaching up to touch the other man's cheek.
"Shall I take you—"

Tsukiyama then froze, his body stiffening when he felt Ken's hand against him.

"A-ah, non, here," Shuu huffed, then lifted Kaneki up gently, where he carried him over to the sofa, "I need to get someone—"
The smaller male stopped him, "Nn... no. Stay. Please." He requested quietly.
Kaneki didn't understand the words that were coming out of his own mouth.
