Tsukiyama had gotten his own place quite a long time ago.

Between the time of the raid and his reunion with Kaneki, he had been busy getting himself together.
He was no longer the man he once was. He had changed drastically.

How was it that he maintained such patience and support for Kaneki, anyway?
Even after his loved ones had been thoughtlessly murdered at the hands of those Doves, after having been thrown from a literal skyscraper by that kid, he still loved him.

Well, truth be told, that was somewhat of a ruse these days.

No one ever seemed to ask some rather important details:

Why was it that he was so far away?
Why was it so hidden?
How did he afford it if he were low on income?
And lastly...
How come that guy was the only one to know where he was at first...?

No one really cared to know.

Until one day, Kaneki made an unfortunate accident and fell upon the answers by mistake.

It was late evening, mid February, not quite "after hours," perhaps a bit past 7:30 pm.

Ken had a few details to discuss with the Gourmet Ghoul, some of which would surely be quick, so he decided to drop by and see if he were home.

~ Mistake one: making an unannounced visit.

He sniffled and caught the scent of a fresh trail, and he followed it, taking that as a good sign.
There was a high chance that he was still nearby with a smell that clear.
Another person was mingled in, but it was faint, masked by the thickness of Shuu's much sweeter arouma.
The secondary smelled more clean and natural, like morning dew or woodland after the rain. It was so faint that it seemed intentionally hidden; the undertones of Ghoul were there, but very hard to detect, almost as if it were old enough to go stale.
Or, once again, if it had been masked over somehow.

~ Mistake two: ignoring the presence of another whom was likely a Ghoul.

Kaneki folded his hands in front of him and glanced around the abandoned lot, swiftly crossing the space to peer into the corridor leading to the male's domain.
The door was slightly open...? How careless of him, it seemed. Maybe it was intended?
Disregarding the oddity of this, he went to nudge it open a bit more before stopping dead in his tracks.

~ Mistake three: looking inside without alerting the house's host about his arrival.

Had he arrived perhaps a minute beforehand, he wouldn't have witnessed what he did.

Too shocked to make a noise or even move, he froze in place, his body going completely rigid.

From where Ken was standing, every tiny detail was visible.

Down to the sweat forming on Tsukiyama's forehead, to the flush on his cheeks, it was clear as crystal.
What was even more clear at that moment was how absolutely stupid he had to have been to have missed all of the hints that he had seen over the past several weeks.
