Genin AU!

Their first kiss

There was a delicate touch along the side of Sakura's face, the girl's cheeks were practically bursting with redness as the black-haired boy studied her with curiosity.

Sasuke's thin eyebrows furrow slightly when she tilts her face away, he wanted to look at Sakura properly and she happened to be too embarrassed to look at him directly.

Sakura felt trapped against the tree she was under, all the more, Sasuke wasn't allowing her to escape either. She watches his dark hair sway to the side as the wind runs gently past his face. There was an unknown glint in his eyes, it was like a sense of mischief and childish interest mixed together from the way he was looking at her.

"Kakashi-sensei is searching for us," The girl whispers to him, her green eyes glistening in the sunlight. "And if Naruto might catch us like this, we wouldn't hear the end of it…"

Sasuke hums in response, running the pad of his thumb along the corner of Sakura's lips. She pouts a little when she realizes that the boy was only half paying attention. It was the complete opposite when he was with the other Genin, Sakura wondered what made Sasuke become more gentle.

Her eyes wander away from Sasuke but the feeling of his hand cupping the side of her face, Sakura’s full attention was on him. There was a little bit of hesitation in the boy’s movements, it was like he was flustered, his thin lips pursed tightly. Sakura waits patiently for an answer, Sasuke inhales slowly.

“Help me,” He says in a hushed voice, face twisting into an expression of mild discomfort. “There’s this heavy feeling in my chest whenever I think about you.”

“What?” Sakura sputters out, completely bewildered from what the boy was saying.

“Don’t tell anyone,” Sasuke warns as his dark eyes shift away from hers. “It would ruin the Uchiha name if people find out I’m weak for my own teammate.”

“What…?!” The pink-haired girl tries her best to keep her face straight but fails when a nervous chuckle escapes from her mouth. “This has got to be Genjutsu, right? The real Sasuke would never say anything like that-!”

His eyebrows furrow, “What are you talking about?”

“Nice try, you almost got me there…!” Sakura holds her chest as she lets out a comical sigh. “Ah, I can feel my heart pounding!”

Sasuke’s expression turns sour, “I don’t understand.”

The girl grins crookedly, “And here I thought that this was a genuine confession… But I was able to see through it-!”

“This isn’t Genjutsu,” Sasuke’s voice rises above its usual volume before he turns away with gritting teeth. “Man, this is embarrassing. You’re so annoying.”

A light bulb flickers on as that familiar phrase enters Sakura’s ears, her face becomes pale as she smiles awkwardly, “Huh?” She begins to fumble with her words, “Wh… But, I… Are you the real Sasuke?”

“Are there other Sasukes?” He replies harshly, arms crossing over his chest. “Of course I am! Sakura, I know you’re not stupid.”

“I’m sorry,” She perks up and scratches the side of her head with a finger. “I just thought… This isn’t like you at all…!”

“I know that,” Sasuke mutters as he grips the middle of his dark blue shirt. “But my heart tells me that you’re more important than I thought…”

“Oh,” Sakura trails off and looks to the side. She found this situation extremely strange and the girl was still skeptical about the possibility of Genjutsu being used. As much as she has feelings for the Uchiha, she remained cautious, not willing to admit her love for the boy just yet.

“Well, what’s your response?”

“My response-” Sakura turned to him and was greeted with ruby red eyes. “You don’t have to use your Sharingan!”

Sasuke frowns a little, closing his eyes briefly and opening back to his black orbs, “Your hesitation is worrying me.”

The pinkette was unable to formulate an answer, instead, she grabs a hold of Sasuke’s hand and sandwiches it. Sakura was cringing at her attempt to express her feelings, the boy was also staring at her blankly.

As much as she wanted to shout to the whole village that she was in love with him, but with Sasuke standing before her, it was enough to make the words get caught in her throat.

Sakura’s lashes lowered when the boy’s free hand goes up to the side of her face, the tips of his fingers ran up against her jawline and stopped just behind her ear. Strands of her pastel hair were being twirled teasingly, the pad of his thumb gently touches her cheek.

There was a touch of soft lips against Sakura's and her hands opened wide out of surprise. A warm trail of blush runs from ear to ear, the girl suppressed a bewildered whimper when Sasuke's lips slightly pressed deeper.

The feeling was similar to the first taste of a sweet popsicle on a warm summer day, refreshing and just what you needed. It was like the sweet sourness of chewing fruit, it seemed to be sending waves of electricity throughout Sakura’s small body.

The kiss was also uncoordinated, the top part of her pink lips was pecked softly. Their noses were awkwardly grazing against each other as well as their heads tilting with uncertainty. Sasuke’s hand was stiff against her face as if he was afraid to disrupt the peace between the two of them.

Sakura holds the boy’s hand and squeezes it softly, there was a returning squeeze before he shakily pulls away. Sasuke’s partially trembling lips separated from hers, they were a hair width apart, he was lingering there as he thought about his actions.

The black-haired Genin stands back to give his teammate some space, he didn’t want her to hear how loud his heart was beating. Sasuke can still feel the lasting sensation of Sakura’s soft lips, he almost wished he could touch them again. He glances at her reluctantly, studying her expression to see if she was upset or not.

To his surprise, Sakura was already staring at him in a daze, those emerald eyes were sparkling with adoration. Sasuke’s breath was taken away when her hands continued to hold his own, for sure he thought that she was going to hit him the way she does with Naruto.

The girl sighs, “Why, Sasuke?” Her soft tone was implying that she was astonished by his sudden actions. “You would constantly push me away, call me annoying… Why did you kiss me?”

“Don’t make me say it,”

Sakura’s expression falters a bit from what he said, the glistening in her eyes began to fade away.

Sasuke knew he had nowhere to run off to so he cringed slightly when he finally gained the courage to explain his true feelings. He leaned towards her again, not for her lips, but to whisper into her ear so it was only between the two.

Soon, the girl’s lips part open in shock from his proper confession. His kind words almost brought tears in her eyes. Sasuke was also red-faced, he couldn’t seem to stop his rambling about the effect she had on him.

No doubt, the others would slowly catch on, but Sasuke was certain to make sure that Sakura would accept him. All that pushing away, calling her annoying, it was all an act because he was fearful of these rising feelings.

So, during the summertime, under the green trees, a relationship blossomed from childish love.
