Soleil Cyrus

The crying of children and groaning passengers came to be a headache that clung to me for hours upon this plane. Hours of this, I don't think I'll be able to cope. Travelling was never for me, as I found too many people smudged inside one compartment. Not that I was claustrophobic, but the thought of hearing people complain and snore was the last straw. Especially as I watch those complain about the crying babies or the laughing children running around the plane. The tug of a smile lifts my lips as I watch two parents listen fondly to their child read 'Sleeping Beauty'. I remember my biological parents reading Cinderella to me under our favorite tree, eating mango and strawberry pies.

"Hey miss," the tug of my skirts drags me from my train of thoughts. A young girl with unruly curly brown hair grins widely at me. Her front teeth missed a tooth but her childlike features made my heart skip. She is so adorable. Smiling shyly, I pet her hair trying to smooth it down but it bounces back. The small child giggles. "You're very pretty!"

"Thank you," I whisper. "You're very pretty, too."

"I know! Are you going to see your mommy and daddy?" she enquiries. I nod, smiling softly, not wanting to dampen the little girl's energy. "I'm going to see my mommy and daddy too!! They had lived very very far away! But not now! I'm going to live with them forever!"

"That's great, pumpkin. Who are you with now?" I ask, looking around the plane for anyone who looks like this sweet angel.

"My uncle! Uncle Baden!"

"Ohh you telling pretty women about me, angel?" I turn to the unfamiliar voice and find a rather tall man grinning widely down at the little girl. The man is quite handsome, dark hair, coconut smooth skin, and a charming smile. He leans against one of the blue airplane seats, shuffling in his black tee-shirt.

"Uncle Baden! This pretty woman is my new best friend! She's going to the same place as we are!" Uncle Baden turns his gaze over to me and tips his head.

"I do apologize if she annoyed you," I shake my head, waving my hands around like a madman.

"No no, not at all. She's an angel. Truly," I touch her soft bouncy curls, receiving a giggle. I smile softly and bop her nose.

"Well, that's great. You more than welcome to take her," he replies in a jokingly tone. I giggle softly. "Anyway, I'm Baden Wolfe and this is little Clara," Baden winks at Clara. "And you are?"

I shake his hand, "Soleil Cyrus, it's nice to meet you."

"Likewise. So what's a pretty girl like you doing on a plane?" I stare out the window, clouds covering our view.

"To see someone who doesn't even know who I am. Story of my life..." I wander off, my eyes squinting to look out the window, at a black flying object, the size of the plane heading straight in our direction. At first I thought it was another plane yet I was wrong. It is anything but a plane. I screamed as it hit us, the plane jolting to the side. Everyone in the plane seemed unfazed, sitting in their seats as nothing happens? I turn to Baden and Clara. They looked at me weirdly.

"You've never traveled to Howling Island before having you?" Baden asks me.

I stare at him, wide-eyed. "Howling Island?"

"Yeah! You know, the destination we are setting off too!" Clara jumps into Baden's arms and they take a seat. I grip the seats, panicking. I have no idea what is happening and my death would be coming any second now if I don't act.

"I'm going to Australia! Not, not some island!" Baden looks at me strangely, then sniffs the air. His pupils dilate, their dark brown color glowing almost.

"Oh. I smelt something weird but now I know. You're on the wrong plane sweetheart. And once we land, there isn't any way back. The planes don't come to Howling Island all the time. The next plane will be in the next three years."

"What!!" I cry, the plane rattling, yet no one cares. It's all normal for them. Where am I going!? Shaking my head, too many thoughts swirling as I take everything in. Outside the world has darkened to nothing as the plane shakes and tumbles. Everyone sitting safely in their seats watches me as I make a scene, unintentionally.

I went to stand up but with a large jolt, the plane stopped then suddenly started to land, really fast. My lungs roared as I let out a fearful scream. I couldn't help it. The plane is going too fast for my little heart to keep up. The blood rushed to my head, my vision dimming. I eye Baden, his gaze sympathetic as he watched my shaky figure but he seemed to fuzz out and my eyes shut close.
