Chapter 4 - You Are On A Mission

“You seem disappointed,” Gerome pointed out as Cooper and he stepped into the studio apartment. The room was relatively clean and the bed was stripped of it’s sheets. It was empty, unlike Cooper had expected.

“Where are we going?” Cooper ignored Gerome’s comment and reached under his bed pulling out a medium sized duffle bag.

“Las Vegas,” Gerome leaned against the doorway and peaked out into the empty hall, surveying the scene then shutting the front door.

“And what are we doing?” Cooper moved over to his dresser and took some socks and underwear from it then placed them in the duffle bag.

“You’ll learn about that later, but we got to hurry. Gosh, this wolf you’re with,” Gerome walked over to the bed, placing his hands down on the mattress. Gerome could smell the wolf, something shifters knew.

“Who says I’m with him?” Cooper argued and grabbed some jeans from the dresser as well.

“You’re apartment smells like him,” Gerome commented and lifted his nose into the air. Putting his hands on his hips he frowned for a moment in thought.

“I don’t smell anything, you’re making it up. Plus, it’s not like I am with anyone,” Cooper continued then turned the light on in his closet. He grabbed a dress shirt and two plain t-shirts.

“You know, I can’t put my finger on it but it kind of smells familiar,” Gerome closed his eyes trying to remember where he had smelled this scent before.

“You know his scent?” Cooper paused. The mystery of Marcus had been a curious one.

“I thought you said you weren’t with anyone,” Gerome noted the inconsistencies in Cooper’s statements.

“I’m allowed to have a private life.” Cooper quickly shot back, he didn’t need the shifter poking around his personal business.

“It’s just,” Gerome had something on the tip of his tongue but couldn’t quite figure it out. Instead he continued with, “Never mind, are you almost done?”

“Almost,” Cooper folded the shirts and put them in the bag then hurried to grab a pair of dark denim jeans.

“I kind of miss this place, lying on your bed and purring,” Gerome chuckled referring to the days he spent as Cooper’s house cat when he was instructed to spy on him.

“Please don’t remind me of that,” Cooper put the pants in his duffle then started to the bathroom.

“Wait,” Gerome’s head turned and he walked to the dark window. His eyes scanned the small alley outside and his face became suddenly stoic. “Something is out there.“ He put a hand up for Cooper to stay still. “It’s quick, let’s get going.”

“I’m not done packing,” Cooper glanced at the bathroom thinking about his toiletries.

“We can buy you what you nee in Vegas. Let’s get out of here.” Gerome had a bad feeling. He senesced something big, hurrying to the door he opened it.

“Fine,” Cooper grabbed his duffle, not as worried as Gerome. He then reached by his bedside and unplugged his phone charger. Taking both the items he followed Gerome out.

As the door shut two red eyes flickered in the darkness at the window.

The two drove to Santa Monica Airport where a small private jet was waiting for them. Cooper had never been in a private airplane before and he wasn’t about to let Gerome see how excited he was. The cabin of the small plane hummed and beige leather seats were placed around along with a couch.
