Chapter 6 - I Love That Feeling
Cooper felt Paul get closer to him and managed to slide out of the man’s way right before he reached the sink. Paul leaned up against the expensive marble countertop in the Vegas bathroom and looked at his reflection. Bloodshot red eyes stared back at him. Cooper blinked a few times staring at him and gulping. Cooper had his mission laid out before him, and he wanted to bring Gregson down. Gregson hurt his brother and Cooper knew the vampire had to be stopped. To do this, he needed to cut off the drug supply making the vampire stronger.
“So, why do you think I am here?” Cooper stated watching the man he used to fantasize about in the shower look so vulnerable in front of the bathroom mirror.
“To spy on us,” Paul shot a look at Cooper, intense but sensitive.
“Why do you say that?” Cooper kept to the Socratic method.
“People in Bay Tree are wondering right? What happened to their star quarterback?” Paul moved over to the urinal and started to pee.
“I haven’t been back to Bay Tree for a while,” Cooper replied trying to prove his innocence.
“Just your father’s funeral.” Paul retorted finishing up and walking back to the sink. Then, he noticed the tinge of sadness on Cooper’s face. “Still a soft spot.” But he didn’t go deep for long and reached through his unbuttoned shirt pinching his nipple, “Dude, I feel so good right now.”
“I can tell,” Cooper didn’t know how to answer, still recovering from the comment about his father.
“I love it, feeling like this. Being here, so far away from that stupid town. I had to get out... like you right? You couldn’t wait to leave.” Paul looked at Cooper but was so high it was more like he was looking through Cooper for an answer that wasn’t really there.
“I had my reasons for not staying.” Cooper kept his comment brief. He didn’t want to go into all his family’s issues.
“Don’t we all,” Paul returned to his reflection flexing his chest and fixing his hair. “Don’t you fucking go back and tell them I suck cock.”
“I wouldn’t,” Cooper quickly responded to the aggression.
“I’m still straight….I just do what makes Gregson happy.” Paul paused for a moment before continuing, “Cause, well, he makes me happy.”
“But do you really feel…” Cooper wanted to ask but couldn’t get the words out.
“Good, yeah, we should get back.” Paul finished up and unbuttoned one more of his buttons. Before Paul could leave the restroom Cooper grabbed his arm.
“Paul, I want to catch up with you.” Cooper spat out, thinking of the only excuse to find a way to pry Paul for answers. “But, I feel like tonight isn’t the best time.”
“Tomorrow. Gregson likes me tan, I go tanning every day by the pools. You should join.” Paul offered up.
Cooper nodded and the two walked back through the halls to the booth. Upon opening the doors Cooper saw. A meaty bouncer, whose body was not too different from his brother’s Davie was in a puddle of blood on the floor. Around the dead body was Gregson and James who sucked the life from the bouncer. Cooper’s heart sank and the site of it and then he heard laughing. Turning to his side he watched Paul laugh at the scene. Cooper felt sick.
