The first day of school... The day Eddie dreaded every moment of summer. The last weekend of summer couldn't have been better, but with the cold breeze almost knocking his headphones off he saw the school building come into view. He almost turned around, he was ready to skip at any moment. He didn't like being there, then when he saw a head of dark messy hair he almost fell off his bike.
Now he really wanted to skip, but what would his luck be if good ol' Ben didn't pull up next to him.
"Eddie! I saw you a few blocks down, but you're so fast I barely caught up"
"Huh?!" Eddie said, he couldn't really hear anything through his headphones and wasn't concentrating while he watched Richie Tozier walk into the school doors. He took off his headphones as the music faded from his ears.
"You're so fast, I couldn't catch up." He repeated again. Looking in the direction I was looking.
"Oh." I blushed a little thinking back to the drunken weekend. I didn't remember all that much, but I remembered it had something to with that basket case."You know he takes pictures of you when you're practicing. Kinda creepy, but cute in his own way." Ben shrugged, walking his bike into the rack. Eddie followed him and they locked their bikes going to school chatting about what classes they had.
"So I told him, "If you're going to go for center field make sure you know what you're planning to do" and being the stupid bitch he is. He didn't- oh here's my locker." Ben stopped his very interesting story about some football thing Eddie didn't really understand.
"Oh, mines quite a bit further. I'll see you in Chem!" Eddie waved to Ben as he continued his search."203, 204, 205, ah 206" Eddie stopped dead in his tracks as he was face to face with none other Richie, who had just closed his locker which was right next to Eddie's.
"Oh! What a delight, if it isn't Spaghetti in the flesh!" Richie smiled wide, Eddie on the other hand frowned.
"Don't call me that." He said as he opened his locker, pulling his bag up to neatly stack pill bottles and a second fanny pack he had.
"What's the second one for?" The tall boy asked, tilting his head like a puppy.
"The basics. Extra inhaler, sewing kit, medical kit, small notebook, pen, pencil and the backup extra inhaler." He said putting some books in the locker as well.
"Wow, Eds. It's like you have a store in there amazing." Richie said in awe at the amount of things you could fit in one fanny pack.
"Don't call me Eds." He pouted looking up at the boy besides him.
"Aw, I bet you love it- OH by the way I heard you invited Ben to your drunk birthday bash. I feel so excluded and empty" Richie made a dramatic pose at the end, but stopped to open his locker.
"Here. We don't know each other super well, but any friend of Ben is a friend of mine. Enjoy it!"
Before Eddie could even respond, Richie slipped away like a snake to class and as if he had a clock in his brain, the bell rang.Eddie sighed and headed to his first class. Luckily his first class was Chem with Ben. He walked into the class and saw that all the tables were arranged in threes. Eddie groaned at the thought of group projects, but then Ben waved him down.
"Eddie over here!" Ben shouted and pointed his table where another boy sat. If Eddie remember correctly it was Stanley Uris.
"Stan, Eddie. Eddie, Stan" Ben gesturing towards each of us. He nodded and held his hand out, getting a hesitate shake from the blonde boy.
"Nice to meet you officially, Ben told us a lot about you and what's his name again? oh-yeah Mike. Thanks for making sure he takes those bird photos for me" Stan said as he looked up and down Eddie. He felt a little exposed, but he knew he could trust Stan because Ben did.
"Well, I hope we get to at least choose our groups this year" Ben huffed, Eddie nodded. He really didn't wanna be grouped with some random people, he felt safe here.
After a long and tedious lesson, right at the very end of everything.
They were lucky enough to be assigned in groups by where we sat. Ben gave him an unexpected high five and said he'd meet them for lunch.
Eddie walked back to his locker, expecting Richie to be right next to him giving an earful of jokes or annoying him, but he was nowhere to be seen.
"Well. I can't expect him to be my best friend suddenly. He doesn't even know me." Eddie huffed and throw his shit into the locker pulling out his walkman and track uniform.
He quickly changed into his uniform and headed to the track field, stretching and warming up for the practice ahead.
As he started running he saw Richie with a camera walking towards the bleachers. Eddie immediately turned his head and didn't look at Richie once... at first.
As he was running his laps, he kept glancing over at the boy who was moving into strange positions for camera shots. He never noticed him before now, but thinking back Richie was almost always there taking pictures of some the sports through out the day.The coach blew her whistle and clapped her hands "That's it boys! Practice is over, go hit the showers and get to your next class".
Eddie huffed as he came to a stop, stretching his muscles and adjusting his headphones "I'm Still Standing" still blasting loudly through one of his ears.
"Great job, Kaspbrak. Keep it up and I'm sure those scouts will happily grab you" Coach Eve said as she patted my back pretty hard, winding me a little.
I looked as Richie looked at me, taking one more picture, before walking away....____________
Guess who's back baby! I'm not super into IT anymore, but I still love this story so much. So I've decided to finish this! I hope you'll still enjoy it.
Yours Truly, Dan.
