(Emily's POV)
Potions the next day was hell. Snape was in a very foul mood after the story of Neville Longbottom turning his Boggart into a version of Snape in old lady clothing had spread through the school. I worked silently, so as not to anger Snape, and completed my Draught of Peace perfectly, which only seemed to make Snape seep with more rage towards me.
"Five points to Gryffindor." He grumbled, acknowledging my perfect draught.
I smiled at my friends and gave them a thumbs up, letting them know I at least got some of the points back from Snape.
After transferring my potion into vials for later use we made our way to Care of Magical Creatures, excited to see what Hagrid would be teaching us. We heard from Hermione that Hagrid introduced them to Hippogriffs yesterday and we were super excited to see how Hagrid would make Bowtruckles fun, since they were first on our curriculum. But to our surprise Hagrid's lesson was kind of boring, the Bowtruckle's were adorable and Hagrid taught us about them just fine. We just thought he would make it more fun.
"What's going on with Hagrid?" I asked no one in particular.
"I heard one of the Hippogriff's attacked Draco Malfoy, and now Malfoy's dad is trying to get it executed." Lucy informed me.
"Oh no, that's horrible." I said.
"Malfoy probably deserved to be attacked anyway." Fred quipped, making us giggle.
**********
The start of October rolled around quickly, which meant two things. One: Quidditch practice had started, meaning the twins were being worked to the bone by Wood. And two: It was my sixteenth birthday on the second of October! I rolled out of bed happily, receiving happy birthday wishes from my roommates Angelina Johnson, Alicia Spinnet, and Patricia Stimpson.
"Thanks girls!" I yelled as I flew out the door.
I came downstairs to find Fred, George, and Lee waiting for me in the common room, all with their hands behind their backs.
"Why good morning my good lady." Lee announced, bowing to me.
"Yes, yes. Good morning my gracious queen! How do you do this fine day?" Fred and George spoke together.
I burst into laughter at their ridiculous actions, making them crack their facade and laugh too.
"Happy birthday!" They all screamed, pulling me into a group hug.
"Thanks, guys! Now where are my presents?" I asked, still laughing.
They all handed me the packages they were holding and I opened them one by one. Lee had got me some chocolates and a new scarf, from George I received a packet of Bertie Botts every flavour beans and a new beanie to match the scarf from Lee, and from Fred I got a new camera. For ages now I have been wanting a wizard camera that can produce moving photos, and the boys all knew it. I thanked them for the presents and we made our way down to the great hall for some breakfast, being a Saturday the great hall wasn't as packed for breakfast as it usually was during the week since everyone was most likely enjoying a well-earned sleep in.
"So, birthday girl, what would you like to do today?" Lee asked as he shovelled food into his mouth.
"Hmm... Well I would love to test out my new camera." I told them.
"Right! Nature watching by the black lake it is then!" George announced.
We spent the majority of the day sitting on a blanket by the lake, the October air was quite chilly so I was wearing my new beanie and scarf. My camera never left my hands, as I took photos of our beautiful surroundings, as well as the boys goofing off, I also got them to take photos of me as well which they made me laugh in almost every photo. I soon noticed a big black dog staring at us from the edge of the forbidden forest and quickly brought my camera to my face, snapping a photo of the dog causing it to run away.
"Aww! No come back doggy!" I yelled out, getting up to follow the dog.
"Emily, that dog could be dangerous." Fred stated, grabbing my arm to stop me from following it.
"Huh? Oh, come on, it's just a cute doggy." I said pouting.
I looked at the photo as it developed and saw the dog come into view, holding it up for the boys to see.
"See? Isn't he just the goodest boy?" I stated.
"I think Emily's in love." George teased.
I gave him the middle finger and stuck my tongue out, resuming my seated position next to him. The day went by as we lazed by the lake, we had somehow ended up laying in a square, my head resting on Lee's lap, Lee's head resting on George's, George's on Fred's, and Fred's on mine. We were watching the clouds, pointing out ones that looked like animals.
"Hey, that one kind of looks like a dung bomb." Lee stated, pointing to a round cloud.
"Ooo! That gives me an idea! Let's prank Filch." George suggested.
**********
"Ouch George! Get off my foot!" I whisper yelled.
"Sorry, Em, that was me." Lee apologised.
"Whose bright idea was this?" Fred complained.
We were, of course, hiding from Filch in a broom cupboard we found, a tapestry of Barnabas the Barmy hanging across from it. After setting off the dung bombs we ran for it, away from Filch, but almost into Snape. As we heard his voice getting closer, we had no choice but to all squeeze inside the tiny cupboard.
"Did you see them?" Filch asked Snape urgently.
"See who?" Snape asked in a bored tone.
"Those troublemakers! They set off dung bombs in my office!" Filch said, before continuing his search.
We heard Snape leave and carefully peaked out of the cupboard, seeing that the coast was clear we bolted out of the cupboard and sprinted to the Gryffindor common room. We landed in a laughing heap on the floor on arrival, earning strange looks from our fellow housemates.
"What's so funny?" We heard Hermione ask.
"Oh, nothing." George said, still laughing.
"Wouldn't worry about it." Fred laughed.
We all looked between each other before bursting into laughter once again.
