We walk back to the dorms and part ways. I unlock my door and walk in, flicking the switch for the lights. I put my books and other stuff on my table before gathering my mess from earlier. I grab a loose top and bottoms before walking to the bathroom to get ready for bed. I turn off the lights and turn on the oil lamp next to my bed. It takes me hours to get to sleep. finally feel myself dozing off only to hear a knock at the door. My eyes snap open and I growl knowing who it is.
"Ace!" I hear Maddox's hushed whisper from behind the door.
"Ace!" he tries again. I slip out from the warm covers, slipping on my slippers and unlock the door. I yank it open and Maddox falls straight into me. His head lands on shoulder and he weighs me down, I could smell the achohol from his breath.
"Nice catch" he laughs. I grunt in response before kicking the door closed and pulling him to his bed.
I let go of him onto the bed and walk back over to my bed.
"What's wrong?" he asks.
"I was sleeping" I mumble
"Doesn't look like you've been sleeping" he says.
"What do you know you're drunk, shut up and go to sleep" I groan.
"I know a lot of things even for a drunk man" he defends. I scoff and pull the covers higher.
"Why haven't you been asleep?" he asks.
"I don't like sleeping" I mutter.
"But you should sleep" he says.
"Okay, Maddox, shut up!" I exclaim the last few words.
"Okay" he mumbles. I hear a little movement before I hear his bed creak.
"Night Ace, try to sleep, even if you don't like it"
"Okay Maddox, but you have to be quiet for me to sleep" I reply.
A few weeks have passed.
The last lesson of the day and everyone had become restless wanting to eat some food. I had gotten bored of doing the work set for us and chose to listen to Maddox and another guy talk about sneaking out again. I flip my pen between my fingers and rest my chin in the palm of my hand.
For the past few weeks we have been woken up at random times to go running or complete the challenges set by the Instructors.
I can hear the sound of the bell in my head even now. I rub my eyes as I yawn feeling drained in a maths lesson doesn't make it any easier to try to get some work done. This morning we were woken up at 3 am to go running and collect water from the lake near here to then run back with it. Sounded easier than it actually was and I could already feel my muscles ache for tomorrow. The bell rung and the teacher walks out.
I sigh and gather my things before fixing my cap on my head and walking out the class room. I meet up with Lawrence who didn't have a class and was already walking about the campus with comfortable clothes.
"How was maths?" he asks.
"Boring, I was too tired to even focus" I reply as I kick some stones about.
"Bet you it will happen again tonight" he says. I nod.
"Is Maddox going out?" he asks.
"I think so, he was talking about doing so in maths" I say.
"He should just stop the amount of times he's gotten in trouble isn't worth it" he says with a hint of concearn lacing his words.
"It's his own choice, he gets visitors and then goes out to see them at night" I say brushing of his concern.
