Monday 2 July

9:45p.m

Great news! First day out looking for a job and I was having NO luck. Everywhere was the same, when I tried to show them by book there was no interest. So, before I headed home I decided to stop off at ‘Quick Coffee & Treats,’ to eat away my failure.

While I was ordering the server asked why I was so glum so I explained my situation to her. Turns out, my server was the boss and she said I could go back! I start tomorrow! I’ll be a baker to get some experience in a bakery since I’ve already worked in a kitchen.

I told Siobhan when I was making signs with them tonight. “Already?” she beamed. “Now since you’ll be busy with your job you only have to be at the activities! Ali, Murphy and I have got the planning down, unless you have time of course.“

Saturday 14 July

10:52p.m

I’m sorry I haven’t been writing much but, working at the bakery is intense. I work 6-2p.m Monday - Saturday. Then if I’m caught after work I’m hauled around by Siobhan to plan for our other activities.

We’ve been collecting for the Garage sale all week even some family members and friends have been giving us donations to sell to make some money.

Tomorrow is the bake sale and I’ve been baking literally ALL DAY. Now my kitchen is full and I sort of doubt we will be able to sell all these treats. Oh well, we’ll see tomorrow the bake sale starts early.

Thursday 19 July

8:15p.m

Just a quick update because the outcome of the garage sale was AMAZING, we earned a total of £1,700! People offering higher than the set price just so they could help me out! I can’t believe the generosity of the community.

Friday 27 July

“I can’t do this.”

Ali laughed, “It’s a piece of cake Aisling. Just don’t picture anyone in their underwear and you’ll be okay.”

“Easy for you to say, you enjoy this type of thing.” I didn’t think there was going to be this great of a turnout of people at the community dinner; it looks like the whole community is here tonight. “It would have been nice to know that I was supposed to do a speech. I would have been able to prepare.”

“Siobhan didn’t think about it until tonight. After she seen all the people she decided it would only be right if you said something to all your visitors.” Ali grinned.

I peaked around the corner of the door at the huge crowd of people seated in the community centre patiently waiting for dinner to be served. Siobhan stood before them arms rising and falling as she spoke, she turned to me, “Now here’s Aisling to give a few words before dinner is served.” She started applauding and the crowd applauded along with her, I froze.

“Go!” Ali pushed me from behind and I stumbled towards Siobhan.

“Um…T—thanks for coming.” I choked out when the applauding quieted. Everyone stared at me expectantly waiting for more speech.

I looked at Siobhan for help, she laughed nervously, “Looks like Aisling has fallen shy. What I know she wants to say is thank you for all the help we’ve received from everyone so far!” She pulled out a piece of craft paper; on it was a huge cake chart indicating how much we’ve earned and how much more we need. “This is what we have so far not counting what we’ve received tonight. We’ve still got a lot to earn but I know with all the great people here and with enough hard work we will do it.”

She looked at me, “Y—yeah thanks for all the help. For dinner tonight we will be serving a smorgasbord of different dishes I have learned to make. Also, if you wouldn’t mind there is a slip of paper under your plates, before you leave I would appreciate each of you to fill one out choosing your least favorite dish and suggesting how I might be able to improve it.”

“Now if you’ll please line up the smorgasbord is now open!” Siobhan waved her arm towards the side of the room.

Her and my mom pulled down a sheet of fabric revealing the long beautiful table decorated with all the food Murphy and I have been slaving over since 11a.m today.

Everyone rose staring at the table impressed, “after dinner we are also going to be having a magic act!” I blurted out before I could think about it, “Ali the magician has so gladly offered his talent as an after dinner show.”

I heard a few hoots before I entered through the door again to see a glaring Ali. “What was that about!” he shrilled. “I’m nowhere near prepared! I have nothing ready!”

Just then Siobhan burst in, “Why didn’t I think of that!”

“I didn’t volunteer though!” Ali shrieked.

“Looks like your thinking on your feet now too huh Aisling?” She laughed then looked at Ali, “Well they’re expecting you now, you’re a magician, show me the magic.”

I couldn’t help but laugh, that’s for thinking my situation, was funny earlier. Ali huffed and ran for the door, “It’ll be a miracle if I can make anything happen!” he shouted as he ran out the door.

Murphy wrapped his arms around me and chuckled, “that was mean.”

“He’ll forgive me.”

6:00p.m

Naturally Ali has showed us the magic once again. There he stood before our happy dinner guests wowing them with his magic. Siobhan stood beaming at her work and Murphy was just dragged up on stage to assist.

I looked at Siobhan’s cake graph; I can’t believe how much help we’ve received so far. Amazing, and none of this is even counting the money I’m getting from work.

I’m actually going to this school!
