To say the café is good would be an understatement. The inside is warm and welcoming, with nice art hanging from the beige walls. Round deep brown tables ornate the inside of the main room, and I'm sitting opposite Diana in a quiet corner. It seems like half of the town is out on Fridays, and a lot apparently wanted to check out this new spot.

I cradle my hot chocolate topped with whipped cream, desperately searching for something to say to break the silence. Diana has ordered a mint tea, mubling something about 'her teeth', which I think she doesn't have to worry about, seeing they're the whitest I have ever seen.

"Are we supposed to debrief the meeting or..?"

Piercing blue eyes finally meet mine after minutes of avoidance.

"What did you think about it," Diana asks, eyeing me over her black rimmed glasses. "Even though you didn't take part in it, I'm sure you must have something to say."

"Umm, it wasn't really uplifting.. Johnny's stories will keep me up tonight, that's for sure."

She lifts her eyebrows, and I automatically blush. Now, what have I said. I am so focused on what to say and what not to say, and appear natural, that I nearly miss eveytime she talks.

"We can do the debriefing tomorrow, don't sweat on it. You'll have a good night of sleep, or not"- she winks at me-"to think about it."

"I think I'll come back though. After Mr. Clay went to the hospital and retired, I really was missing a parental figure. Annie seems chill. I like her."

Diana chuckles, and I grin, happy that she finds me amusing. "Chill. Such a Gen Z way to talk."

I frown at her, which makes her laugh even more. "Hey, I'm only seven years younger than you!"

"That's what I'm saying, child."

I scowl at her, apparently at her greatest amusement, since her lips strech in a grin behind her mug.

She sips on her tea and I observe despite myself the way her lips move, and her eyes close as she appreciates the drink. Everything she does has a sensual edge to me, and I once again realize that I'm in deep. Why does she keep inviting me out, for no reason at all? The sushi restaurant, now the coffee shop? And yet she keeps addressing me as if she were twenty years older than me.

She must've realized that I'd become quiet, so I retort: "If you think so much of me as a child, why'd you invite me out on a coffee date? I could have you cornered for corruption of-"

Her widening eyes make me stop dead in my track. The word 'date' slipped out so easily from my mouth.

Diana doesn't seem shocked, just surprised, and her eyes narrow at me when I don't respond. I get so distracted just looking at her that I miss half of the things she says.

"I'm sorry, what?"

She smiles, making her nose crinkle and her eyes narrow. "I said that I didn't want you to feel forced to accompany me. Is there something on my chin?"

"Hum, no, why'd you ask?"

"Hmm, just thought you were looking at me."

I fake a laugh to cover my absolute embarassment, "You think you're all that, uh?" After seeing her chuckle, I think myself out of danger. We sip our hot drinks in a comfortable silence, and I can't help appreciating the quiet just between us, contrasting with the buzzing of all the conversations around us.

I feign interest in an abstract painting hanging in the wall when I feel eyes on me. I purposefully avoid Diana's piercing eyes, as I don't know how she would react if I caught her watching me. Maybe my Henley shirt hanging open over my cleavage gives her a nice view. Or maybe she isn't even watching me.
