CHAPTER 8

Nathan wanted to punch someone.  Hard.  His principal was stupid, he decided after about ten minutes into the meet and greet thing.  He had had them playing adventure running games for two hours, which was just a bad idea in a room full of hormonal teenagers, let alone hormonal beasts.  After tackling Shanti for the fifth time, he had had enough of the stupid meeting and had just wanted to take Shanti away for some...alone time.

Not that he was the only one with the idea.  People...guys couldn't stop looking at her.

It seemed that they hadn't finished the whole mating thing, because guys were still after Shanti, and he had to literally beat them off with a stick.  It was frustrating, because it seemed that she had no clue what was happening when it was happening, making it difficult to protect her.  He had managed though, after strong-arming a guy to switch cards with him so that he was in Shanti's group.  She hadn't minded.  Much.

"Honestly, how stupid is our principal?" Fraser asked as they all waited for a bus to make their way to Shanti's place.

"Very, but I don't think it was his idea in the first place." Francesca drawled out, standing somewhat away from the others as she looked for her car keys.

Nathan was half-listening to them; most of his attention was on that guy who was talking to his sister, touching her arm, leaning in to look at something she was showing him...

"Nathan!  Leave your sister alone!" Isis scolded, not even trying to hide the amusement in her voice.  "It's not like your sister decides who you get to talk to, hmm?"

Nathan pouted for a moment.  His pout turned into a smile when Shanti rolled her eyes and gave him a peck on his lips.

"Stop scaring the poor boy, he's nervous; he can probably feel you two staring at him."

Nathan and Fraser shared a look and grinned.  They were good.

Shanti hit Nathan and Fraser both on the arm.  "Stop it you two, it's not funny."

As Nathan bent down to kiss his disgruntled girlfriend, Fraser looked around, trying to avoid looking at Vanessa and the boy.  "Hey, where's Maddy?"

"Ah, she and Sam are talking...I don't know if that's a good thing or not." Isis supplied.  "And on that note, I just remembered that I have to go to work, so do you guys mind if I take a rain check?"

Lydia smiled.  "Yeah, go right ahead."

Isis waved goodbye to everyone and headed to her car; a moment later, Maddy showed up, frowning.  She wouldn't say anything to Shanti, instead boarding the bus and sitting by herself in the back.  Lydia and Shanti shared a look, but Nathan and Fraser were oblivious to it.

"Hey, aren't those your friends that were supposed to hang out with you Shanti?" Fraser asked with a small grin on his face.

Shanti turned to look at where he was pointing.  She smiled, but her smile was slight.  "Yeah, that's them, but I don't really want to talk to them today."

"You don't have to then," Nathan simply said, burying his face in her hair.  "Let's go and sit down with Maddy, see what's wrong with her."

Her smile was much brighter when she answered Nathan with a simple okay, giggling when he kissed her ear.  Fraser and Lydia shared a look; he looked disgusted, while she looked giddy.

"Don't worry, you'll get used to it," she said when she passed by him, patting him on the hand.  "At least you don't hear about him all the time."
