The morning came with sunshine and chirping birds just outside the window. Rufus grunted something and pulled his blanket better over him. Who had left the window open? It was getting chilly in the room and he did not like it when the bedroom was cold.
The blond mage shifted on the bed and stopped, moved some more and quickly sat up when he realised that his precious boyfriend wasn't there with him. Freed had gotten too good at sneaking out without waking him up! It had been cute and fun at first but now Rufus definitely didn't like it.
He muttered something as he groggily stood up, took his shirt and mask, tied up his hair since he had no time to properly untangle it and finally he grabbed his coat. He headed out from the empty room, trying to figure out where Freed might be. It was still so early he couldn't hear any noises from anywhere in Fairy Tail guild house.
The hall was empty, as well as the library. Freed wasn't in the kitchen nor was he in office rooms. From the room just beside infirmary Rufus heard snoring since Laxus, Bickslow and Evergreen were staying over so they could hear how Freed was doing as soon as there were news. Rufus walked past that door and finally ended up at the door that lead to the huge backyard.
He stepped outside to the sunlight, squinting his eyes a bit and looked around. There. He saw Freed standing near the training grounds, wearing his old red coat and it seemed like he was okay. Rufus smiled slightly relieved and started to walk towards him, but he stopped when he saw what he was doing.
Freed moved slowly and gracefully. His green hair was untied and it moved along with his body as the rune mage was moving his arms and fingers, doing some exercises. Rufus wasn't really sure what exercises those were, but he liked watching him doing them.
Then he saw something purple. It wasn't anything big but his heart jumped when he could see writing in the air. Freed was using his magic! Rufus smiled brightly, feeling so happy for his boyfriend and so proud because after all struggles, Freed was finally able to use his magic again!
Freed hummed to himself, not really paying attention to his surroundings. He wasn't really writing any spells, he just wanted to see how much he could use magic. It really wasn't much... But at least he could use it. If he trained more and did his best, maybe he could return back to normal soon? It was definitely worth to try.
Grass was rustling and Freed turned around, seeing Rufus who was stepping closer with a smile.
"Good morning, darling", the memory mage said grabbing Freed's hands and leaned closer to kiss his cheek.
"Good morning, Rufus", Freed smiled.
"I see that the medicine did work."
"At least somewhat", Freed nodded.
"I'm glad", Rufus smiled. "It's great to see you so happy. And when you concentrate on your magic, using it and drawing out those runes... You look like you're really enjoying yourself and I'm really happy to see that."
"Don't tell me you're getting jealous over my magic because right now it makes me so happy that I can use it again and I'm using my time to train instead of just spending all of my time with you?" Freed chuckled and Rufus just looked aside.
"Maybe a little", he muttered.
"You sure are weird, but I still love you", Freed laughed and Rufus blushed slightly. It was the first time Freed said that he loved him so casually! He was about to say something, when suddenly the door slammed open.
"Freed! You're okay!" Evergreen yelled as they were running towards them with Bickslow. In the next second they crashed on the ground, Rufus chuckling when he looked at them. Those three really were close.
