CHAPTER TWENTY
“Fuck.” I curse inwardly, trashing the entire room to look for my missing wedding band, when I search under the bed and I see nothing, I’m ready to pull my hair out, a feeling of despair washes over me.
One thing anyone should know about me is that I hate losing things because I have anxiety when I can’t find it two seconds later. My anxiety worsens if I lose something as important as my wedding band.
I haven’t really had the chance to speak with Carter about our relationship and about how we want to take things because we literally skipped the whole dating and getting to know each other part and went straight to the wedding.
The reason why is quite simple, he’s at work from morning till night and sometimes he comes back home really late because he has paperwork to do or whatever it is he does when he’s at the office and on weekends, it’s his rest days, meaning he sleeps in and just relaxes and due to the fact that I didn’t want to disturb his rest days, I don’t bring up what we’re going to do about our relationship. I mean, l know we really need to talk about it but what can we actually do? Divorce and actually do it step by step like a normal couple or do we try this whole marriage thing and if we just can’t seem to work as well as we wanted to, we divorce?
Ugh, I honestly don’t know and the fact that I lose our wedding ring of all things is just pushing my anxiety through the roof.
“What are you doing? Why are you trashing the room?” Carter’s voice freezes my entire body. I turn around with the bedside lamp in my hands.
I hide the lamp behind my back and turn to face, him, “C-Carter. What are you doing home so early?”
“I told dad that I needed to be home early today because today is a special day.”
“Ohh, really? How so?” I ask.
He shakes his head, “No, you will answer my question from earlier.’ He says averting my question like a plague.
I run my free hand through my hair, “Uhh...I uhh…”
“Tell me the truth.” He says firmly.
I close my eyes and clench my teeth. Looks like I’m busted. I open my eyes and lay the lamp where I found it. I then turn back to him and sigh, “I lost my wedding band.”
He blinks. Once. Twice. “That’s it?” He asks nonchalantly.
“What do you mean that’s it? I lost my wedding band.”
He walks closer towards me and kisses my forehead, “Don’t worry about that silly thing, you’ll find it sooner or later.” He then looks around the room and chuckles at the mess I’ve made, “Get ready later, we’re going out tonight.”
“What for?” I ask when Carter’s hand is on the door knob.
He turns back to me and winks, “It’s a surprise.”

“So, why are we here?” I ask as soon as Carter and I are done ordering.
Carter had brought me to a restaurant to have dinner and the entire car ride here, I’ve been pestering him with what was so special about today and all he said to me was, “I’ll tell you when we get there.”
And here we are, so I will ask him, “Can’t you wait till desert to ask me that question?”
I cross my arms, “No. Tell me why is today so special.”
