Chapter 11
Getting to know the animal inside me isn't challenging in the ways it should be. Physically I'm there already thanks to my transformation. My msuceks are stronger, my hearing is enhanced well past what it should be, and my agileness has become comparable to that of a cat's. But mentally, I'm having trouble comprehending it. I do kind of feel like I felt it coming all along. It's not that I can't accept what I am, that bothers me. It's how easily my mind takes to the idea. Hunt. Eat. Sleep. Watch over the others from afar.
It's simple.
Many nights days and nights pass like this. The only contact I get from the group of people I take care of, is the gift Kayla leaves for me. She's turned the pelt into a cloak. Instead of wearing it as so, I leave my Black sports bra on, and fashion it into a skirt. At night I take it off and cover myself with it like a blanket, but during the day it hides what I am.
It's a small comfort, but I pace the forest floor most nights, feeling uneasy. Everything around me feels different. Especially now that I'm alone, I can't ignore it anymore. Everything I've been ignoring since I first started changing.
Its deep down in the center of my being. A feeling, of connection somehow. When I swim the rivers, and climb the trees I feel it. I can feel it as strongly coursing through the trunks of the trees as I do when I'm submerged in the rushing waters. It vibrates back at me as my feet hit the earth. I can't stop the pull, leading me away from the safe haven we've found.
I leave the others with plenty of game, and set out. I travel for a day and one night. I don't even stop to sleep, for fear of being away from my people for too long. Whatever it is, I tell myself I will find it.
Yet, I'm not prepared for it to not be an 'it'. The first evidence I find of anything out the ordinary, is the scent of people. It's all around a trap that's been set near a tree. Five scents overlap each other, surrounding the area where it was positioned. The scent is barely a day old, and there's a wild hog in the trap.
I cut the rope holding it up.
The trap is made of thick, sturdy ropes. The ropes have already strangled it to death not long ago. The trap was designed very well, even after tearing in some places from it's tusks, it still managed to keep it subdued. I examine the rope, it's not like any kind of rope I've ever seen before.
What's even more concerning, is that there are definitely other humans on this island. Or is it an island? There's so much land here. Am I even still in the same universe as before? Had we somehow ended up in another dimension. My head begins to hurt just thinking about it. I hide myself among the tree and wait.

"Wait! Something's not right."
It's a woman's voice. I listen intently as the group of five approaches the trap. I inhale deeply. It's a hunting party made up of five women. They examine the dead boar, looking around for clues.
Sitting some twenty feet above them, I'm invisible to them. I can't see them, but my sense of smell tells me exactly how many their are, that their all women, and that they're carrying weapons that reek of iron.
Their skin is all dark. Severely tanned from the sun. They look like some kind of indigenous Goddesses walking the Forest floor. I can feel it down below me now. Like a second beating heart, yanking at my veins to be reconnected to me. I've found what I'm looking for.
I release the tree branch I'm holding on to, and allow myself to fall to the floor. I land with a soft thud, causing them all to turn my way. A spear comes shooting at me, but I knock it away easily. The woman who's thrown it at me looks shocked. Slowly I stand up from my crouch.
