Harvey raced to the hospital, his adrenaline pumping. He ran inside and straight the the ICU. He walked up to the counter with nurse doing paperwork."Hi I'm here for Sierra Stone. I'm Harvey Stone, Sierras husband," he said out of breath.
"Sierra Stone. Let me check real quick," she said typing away on her computer.
"Alright follow me Mr. Stone," said the nurse and Harvey followed.
"How's she doing?" he asked worried and anxious.
"Honestly she's not doing too good. She had a large piece of glass go through her skull and penetrate her brain. The surgeons were able to remove it but she's in a coma. Now all we can do it wait," she said sadly as she walked him to her room.
He walked in and found her lying on the bed, completely motionless, plugged into multiple machines. He saw her parents huddled around her, weeping. His heart ached as he knew it was his fault that she was in this position.
"Harvey thank God you're here," Alice hugged him tight as she cried.
He was surprised by her affection. He awkwardly hugged her back.
"How is she?" He asked walking up to her, looking at her bloody and bruised body.
"She's in a coma. We won't know anything else until she wakes up. We've been here for a few hours, just waiting," Lee sighed. His eyes were red and swollen from crying.
"You guys can head home if you'd like. I plan on staying here all night watching over her. I'll let you know if she wakes up," he said not taking his eyes off of her, hating himself for doing this to her.
"It is getting pretty late. Not like we'll be able to sleep anyway. But we should try to get some rest. Take good care of her Harvey," Lee said. Alice hugged Harvey one more time saying goodbye as they headed out.
Harvey walked by her side, and grabbed her hand. Tears filled in his eyes, "Sierra, I'm so sorry." He started sobbing.
He watched her for hours, hoping she would wake up. Nurses came in every once in a while to check on her. Eventually, his eyes were getting heavy, closing as he slept. He heard a noise, stirring him out of his unpeaceful slumber.
His eyes fluttered open to see Sierras fingers twitching. He sat up, suddenly wide awake. He stood by her side and grabbed her hand.
"Sierra? Can you hear me? Please wake up," he begged.
"Mmm," she moaned.
"Yes! Come on Sierra. Wake up!"
Slowly her head turned side to side. Harvey smiled wide, as he rang for the nurse. She came in with a doctor to check on her.
"How is she?" He asked anxiously.
"It looks promising. Her vitals look good. Just keep looking after her and let us know if anything changes," the doctor said and left.
He stood next to her, waiting. After what seemed like forever, her eyes slowly opened. She was confused and in a lot of pain. She looked around to see she was in the hospital. She looked over to see Harvey smiling down at her. She groaned internally wanting nothing to do with him.
"Sierra! You're awake!" he exclaimed feeling relieved.
She opened her mouth trying to speak but her mouth was dry. She pointed to the cup of water sitting on the stand. Harvey looked over and handed her the water. She gulped it down quickly, enjoying the feeling of the fresh, cool liquid flowing down her throat.
She looked up at him in disgust, "What are you doing here?"
Harvey was hurt by her tone but understood why she felt the way she did.
"Because I care about you," he confessed.
She scoffed, "Yeah right. Is that why you keep hurting me? Because you care so much?" He hung his head down, guilt rushing over him.
"Sierra, I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to do any of that to you. I was drunk and stupid. I know that doesn't excuse what I did. I just hope you can forgive me."
"Why should I? All you're gonna do is get mad and hurt me again."
"Is that why you tried to kill yourself?"
"It's the only way I could get away from you," she whispered. Even though he knew the truth the whole time, hearing her confirm it made his heart ache.
"I don't blame you. I never should've done that to you. It's just that..." he stopped.
"It's just what?"
He ran his fingers through his hair, frustrated. He's never opened up his feelings to anyone before. He was scared.
"I'm not good at relationships. I don't get close to anyone and I don't let anyone get close to me. My parents..." he sighed. She stayed silent waiting for him to finish.
"My mom was diagnosed with lung cancer when I was 12. No matter how much money we had and how much treatment she got, nothing could save her. After she passed away, my dad pretty much died inside too. He became an alcoholic and drank his life away everyday. He would constantly abuse and hit me, when he never used to before when my mom was alive. Eventually he died from alcohol poisoning. With no brothers or sisters, I was left with the company my dad worked so hard to build. From a young age I had no choice in what I wanted to do. I had to do what I was expected to do. I ran my father's company with no family or friends to help me or support me. I've been on my own since I was 13, pushing away anyone and everyone, too afraid that they'd hurt me or leave me. I've never told anyone this, but you deserve to know why I have so many demons."
He sat down on the chair, his face in his hands. She stayed silent not sure exactly what to say. She finally understood why he is the way he is.
"Harvey..."
"It's ok. You don't have to say anything. I just wanted to let you know I'm letting you go. That is, if you want to."
"What do you mean you're letting me go?"
"I mean we can get divorced and you can be free without any issues from me. But if you can give me another chance, I promise I will treat you better. After I thought I lost you, I felt like I'd never be happy again. You don't have to decide right now, but I'll comply with whatever you decide. It's your choice. I'm gonna call your parents and let them know you're awake. They've been worried sick about you," he said and left.
Sierra lied in bed, wondering what she should do.
