Minutes later I pull into the police department building and get out. The freshness of the air out here is better and I can hear sirens in the distance. That's ironic. It's almost 18 degrees out and my puffy winter jacket is making me sweat.
I open the steel doors of the building and enter in to be greeted by a man sitting behind a desk. In here it smells like sulfur and metal. It's a disgusting smell and I try not to show it in my face.
"How may I help you this fine day, ma'am? He says with a light southern accent.
"Uh- my apartment has recently been broken into." I say and he cuts me off with
"At the age of 15? 16?"
"16. Sir." I respond. I almost roll my eyes but then I realize who I'm talking to. I continue on.
"As I was saying, my apartment has been broken into about 12 hours ago, and I have proof that a girl named Britney Sykes has committed the crime." I say trying to be polite.
"Lemme see." He says, no acting a bit more informal. I pull up the picture of her hair on my phone and say
"I have the DNA results at 158 Green-made street. If you don't trust me." I say with a half attitude.
"Thanks. I'll go there and confirm it and will give you a call." He responds with a croaky and dry voice, and he looks at me and gives me a weird look.
"Thank you!" I say while walking out. I started my car and headed down the road. The drive home was terrible. I had 100 million people pull out in front of me and the icy roads made it hard for anyone to drive.
I got home, sat on my couch and the phone rang almost immediately. I quickly run over to it, dodging my shabby couch.
"Hello?" I pick up. My breathing is heavy from running over here.
"Hello, this is the police department and we confirmed that Britney Sykes had broken into your apartment. We are sorry to hear that and your insurance is granting $2,000 to cover the damages. Thank you for notifying us. You will receive the money on your debit card. Britney Sykes is a minor that wants to have her identity covered. Neither one of you will attend court due to this and she will be in prison for about 7 years or more. Thank you."
Then I hear a beep and I put the phone down. I won. I finally won.
