"But mommy I don't wanna go to school. Why do you have to leave me?" A young frog asked as he walked to the school holding his mother's hand.

"Oh Kermit, you'll be fine. I'll make sure to pick you up right on time today. I promise." Mary the Frog said.

The shy frog looked down in fear as he got closer to the school building, "Mommy...I wanna stay at home with you!" He said as tears filled up in his eyes.

Mary gave her son a sad smile and kissed his head, "Don't worry baby. Mommy will pick you up after. You'll have fun! You'll make friends, play games, color, and I even packed your favorite lunch!"

"Flies and dip?" The frog asked as his face slightly lighten up.

"Yes!" She kissed her son once more and walked with him to his classroom.

The classroom was filled with different kids. Frogs, bears, pigs, and whatevers. Kermit didn't feel comfortable as he saw the bears. His mother always warned him about the dark and scary woods near the swamp.

Soon a young shy bear tripped and fell next to Kermit. Kermit helped him up and slightly smiled, "That was quite a tumble."

"Yeah.." the bear said as he rubbed his arms, "My name's Fozzie. Wanna be best friends?"

Kermit was still afraid of the bear but he seemed pretty nice, "Sure! My name's Kermit. Kermit the Frog."

"Nice to meet you Kermit. My friend Gonzo is over there, I'll take you to meet him. We're gonna be best buddies forever!"

Mary watched as her son went to play with the bear and whatever Gonzo was. She was afraid Kermit would start to cry if she left but she saw how much fun he was having that he completely forgot his mom was there. Mary smiled and walked out in hopes that her son will have a great day.

"So you're a frog?" Gonzo asked, "weird."

"Gonzo, a frog is weird? Why don't you take a look at yourself?" A dog said as he walked past, "the name's Rowlf by the way. If you need me, I'll be by the piano! This dog sure loves the piano!"

Kermit smiled, "You guys are really nice to me. I thought that you wouldn't like me."

"I like everyone. Ma always told me to treat everyone the way I wanna be treated." Fozzie said as he wrapped his arm around the frog.

"Okay class time to settle down! Let's find our seats! I'm your teacher, Miss Nanny and I'm gonna help you all have a wonderful school year!"

All the kids went and sat down in their seats, "For today's lesson, I wanna get to know you all. Let's start with you young man." Miss Nanny said as she pointed at the frog.

Kermit was always shy when it came to talking to others, especially a huge crowd, "Oh..um my name's Kermit...Kermit the Frog. I'm only 5 years old and I love to sing about rainbows! My mommy taught me how to play the banjo and I like to make songs about dreams and happiness and even rainbows!"

Miss Nanny smiled, "Well I'm sure with that bright mind of yours, you'll be making it somewhere in life when you're older!"

"I hope so! I wanna make people happy!"

"Oh we have a dreamer in here! I love the way you think Kermit!" Miss Nanny said, "Now how about you?"

Fozzie stood up, "My name's Fozzie! I'm 5 years old and I like to make jokes!" He said as he pulled out his rubber chicken, "Wakka Wakka!"

The class laughed at the bear as he began to tell some jokes. Next Gonzo stood up with pride, "I'm the Great Gonzo! I wanna get blown out of a canon and land into a giant bowl of cheese!"

The class blankly stared at the whatever, "Hey a guy can dream right?" Gonzo asked.

After the class finished introducing themselves, it was time for recess. Fozzie, Kermit, Rowlf, and Gonzo were by the slide talking about whatever 5 year old boys talk about.

While they were talking, Kermit turned and saw a little girl getting picked on by first grade boys. Kermit quickly walked over, "Hey why are you hurting that girl?"

"She's a pig! We don't like pigs!"

"Well, she's a girl! Boys shouldn't hurt girls!"

The boys laughed, "Have fun with your girlfriend!"

"She's not my girlfriend, I don't even know her!" He said as he helped the little girl up.

The boys walked away. Kermit helped the girl clean off the dirt from her dress and her pigtails, "I'm Kermit by the way."

The little girl looked at him and stared at the frog with her big blue eyes, "My name's Piggy."

"Nice to meet you. Well I'm gonna go back to play with my friends."

Piggy hugged the frog, "Can I be their friend too?"

"Well of course! They're really nice!"

Kermit grabbed her hand and ran back to the boys, "Guys, this is Piggy. She wants to be friends with us. If that's okay with y'all."

"Of course! I'm Rowlf!" The dog said as he shook the Pig's hand, "and that's Fozzie Bear and Gonzo."

"What are you supposed to be?" Piggy asked Gonzo.

"I don't know but I'm different and different is cool!"

"You know what would sound cool?" Fozzie asked, "let's have a group name!"

"How about the cool kids?"

"Too simple." Fozzie said, "How about the funny bear and his friends?"

"No."

"How about The Muppets?" Kermit asked.

Everyone liked the name, "Well the Muppets it is! And Kermit can be the leader since he made up the name!"

Little did the kids know, their group name would become big in the future.
