Case bites his bottom lip as he hides behind his locker door, his eyes focused on Rhyannon Sepulveda down the hallway at school. He hasn't had a chance to talk to him about what he walked in on the other night and Case has been itching to confront him about it. It shouldn't be hard, right? Rhyannon is Israel's brother. Rhyannon is familiar with Case and they're friendly towards each other but Case is only friends with his brother... not him. Who knows what he'll do with this information? He's never around much when Case is at their house. It's like he just lurks in the shadows or something with hidden secrets from the people around him. Gaining the courage to talk to him about what he saw, Case holds his head high as he makes his way down the hallway until he approaches Rhyannon at his locker.
"Hey." Case greets, unsure how to start this very awkward conversation.
"Hey chocolate lover." Rhyannon glances at Case as he slings his camera bag over his shoulder. "What brings you by?"
"I want to talk to you about what you saw." Case squints. "At the country club."
"You mean the person you were kissing?" Rhyannon asks loudly.
"Would you shut up?" Case hisses, looking around to make sure no one hears. "I just want to make sure you're not going to tell anyone."
"Just because we're both gay makes us on the same team, right?" Rhyannon closes the door to his locker.
"I'm not gay." Case protests even though he isn't even sure what the truth is anymore.
"Oh, right." Rhyannon snaps his fingers. "You're just a guy that kisses other guys."
"Look, this is none of your business." Case tells him seriously. He doesn't know what he'll do if this gets out to everyone. He's never really been the talk of the school but he doesn't want this thing with Eric being the ammo.
"It was my business when I walked in on you guys, remember?" Rhyannon runs his fingers through Case's hair. "Keep your head up little one. People are watching."
Case's lips part as Rhyannon walks away down the hall. He sees Anna Adams at her locker, Harrow Evans chatting to her friend, Tabby someone snacking on fruit. What does he mean people are watching? Paranoid, Case quickly dashes off down the hallway, tearing down a Homecoming poster as he goes.Brooklyn finishes her Romeo and Juliet assignment that same morning in the cafeteria. She stuffs the paper into her binder just as she sees Anna approaching. Brooklyn has finally been able to smile a little brighter around her friend ever since she met Jonah. He has been so good to her seeing that she's pregnant. Brooklyn does feel like the worst friend ever for keeping this secret, as well as the one about Cambridge. It's too late to say anything now, right?
"Guess who just got asked to homecoming." Anna chirps with an excited smile spread across her red lips. That's another reason Brooklyn can't say anything to her. She gets all happy and stuff talking about Cambridge. She doesn't want to ruin that either.
"Cambridge asked you?" Brooklyn gets up from her chair.
"Yep." Anna confirms. "Georgia and I are going shopping for dresses after school. You in?"
"I don't know." Brooklyn thinks about it. She hasn't gotten asked to homecoming yet and she really wasn't planning on going. She was hoping she could stay in with a series of slasher films on Netflix. That would be way more enjoyable than a stupid school dance.
"You haven't gotten asked yet?" Anna asks as if she's bragging that she has a date and Brooklyn doesn't.
Brooklyn looks at Anna in annoyance. She should go to the dance just to show Cambridge that she has moved on. To show him that she doesn't need him and that she doesn't have to have sex with him again any time soon. She'll go and make him jealous with Jonah. "Actually, I have gotten asked."
"You did? By who?" Anna asks, sounding shocked.
"Jonah Phillips." Brooklyn lies, checking the time on her phone and realizing she only has a few minutes to get to class. "Sorry, got to run."
Brooklyn uses her cane to maneuver down the hallway as fast as she can. She needs to find Jonah and ask him before someone else gets to him first. She spots him heading towards a math classroom and she uses her cane to hit it against the wall of lockers to her right. Jonah's head snaps to look at her. "You okay, Juliet?"
"Go to homecoming with me?" Brooklyn pants for breath and looks at him with eyes filled of hope.
"Hm." Jonah pretends to think. "I'm going to have to clear some stuff that night but I guess we can share a few dances."
"Shut up." Brooklyn playfully hits his arm. "So you'll go?"
"Of course." Jonah nods. "What kind of Romeo would I be if I left Juliet alone at the ball?"
"My dress will be silver." Brooklyn winks and leaves him with that. She smirks when she strolls away, knowing she'll get the perfect revenge on Cambridge.
