Kreyul and Kissae

It was early morning when Kreyul got a call.  Tired as he was, he picked up his phone by the bedside table and listened to what the man on the other side of the line had to say,  knowing that a call this early could not be good.  He was prepared to hear bad news,  but the news that he got was worse.  It brought something up in him— a sadness,  that he hadn't experienced in a long,  long while..
As he set his phone down he felt a tear trickle down his cheek,  then many more. His stomach churning and twisting into a sharp pain, he turned and fell back into his bed, sobbing now. Bawling.  He hadn't gotten up yet this morning, but now he didn't even want to.  He curled up into his blankets,  shivering and breathing heavily.

"why her..."

His voice didn't want to work,  and he didn't mind.  Sometimes silence helped.  However,  sometimes silence also kept you trapped in a downward spiral of pain and grief.
He began to remember all the wonderful times he and Emai had had and now that she was gone,  who would be there for him.  He'd lost his everything,  and he couldn't seem to get out of that mindset.

Hours passed and the man,  Kreyul,  lay sobbing into his sheets.  He was heartbroken, and never once,  had he felt a pain this bad.
It wasn't until something appeared,  opposite of him by the foot of the bed that Kreyul even raised his head. And even then,  it was simply to see who it was so he could do nothing but curse them away.

And yet, who he saw by the left hand foot of his bed didn't make him want to curse them away,  for it was a being he'd grown to accept. Kissae. Whenever Kreyul was feeling down or needed help, Kissae had always been for him no matter what.  No matter where they we're or what Kreyul was going through, Kissae was always there.
And so now it made sense that the being—not quite human,  but not yet beast— would be there by his side,  waiting eagerly to comfort him.

Feeling noticed,  Kissae smiled softly,  his bright eyes showed a sad sympathy for the disheartening sight of the man before him,  and yet his grin gleamed of joy.
Kreyul looked hideous.  His eyes,  puffy and red.  Crusty from the tears that had dried,  and yet somehow glossy from the tears yet to come.  His lips were swollen from biting them together in his attempts to shut up.  Nobody ever liked to cry.
Especially no man.
He turned his head again back into his soft, feather pillow in a poor attempt to simply ignore the being that hadn't yet even spoken.
However,  Kreyul felt a warm hand on his shoulder as Kissae gently rubbed.

"Hey.."

It was one word,  and it was all that went spoken for a few minutes.

"Are you..  Okay?"

It was only then that Kreyul even moved.  He slowly turned to his back and looked over at Kissae, frowning, but he had ceased his tears.

"Do I look okay?"

He didn't seem angered.  Not even annoyed,  just...  Disheartened.

Kissae climbed over him and pulled him into a hug,  "I'm sorry.. I heard what happened to Emai."

They stayed like that for more than a moment,  and eventually,  Kreyul sat up and hugged back tightly.
He was still shivering but he was calming down. He wrapped his arms around Kissae and burrowed his head in the crook off Kissae's neck.
Kissae held him,  still in his lap,  closely.  The two were very close,  but it didn't seem to matter at this point.  Nothing did because right now,  it felt good to be embraced.

Kissae closed his eyes and pressed against Kreyul,  gently rubbing his back and trying to soothe him with coos of
"hey it's alright..  Or,  it's not,  but it is what it is.."
and
"it's nor your fault,  you could have never known.. Don't be sad, you've got me here.."

And eventually,  Kreyul had calmed himself.  And at last,  he felt the ability to open up and speak.
"I shouldn't known... I.. I should've done something! I-If I had been there— if I'd have known I c-could've saved her!" he slammed his fist into Kissae's shoulder and they flinched a bit,  but took the pain. They didn't want to do anything but help their best friend.
"shh,  dude..  You didn't know..  You couldn't have,  it's not your fault." they gave a weak smile and looked Kreyul in his eyes.   Fire met ice and they both seemed to freeze up,  caught in each other's gaze.  Kissae's,  was warm and generous. They carried a loving gaze and while Kreyul's were empty and seemingly hollow,  his were grateful. He,  was grateful.

An hour passed, maybe more,  and they stayed in bed together,  hugging each other tightly and whispering things to each other.  And eventually,  Kreyul was feeling better. He looked up into the eyes of Kissae and gave a weak, however pained,  smile. "I need a distraction.."
