Other times, I look at my scars and see something else: a girl who was trying to cope with something horrible that she should never have had to live through at all. My scars show pain and suffering, but they also show my will to survive. They're part of my history that'll always be there.

I remember the first time I cut myself. From the tip of my finger to the end of my hand. The way it looked filled me with curiosity. How the blade split my skin in half, revealing my flesh and just then, blood began to trickle down my hand in the most fascinating way because it didn't just gush out . It started from the top of my pinkie was and as it slowly flowed, my eyes stayed locked on it, like a moth drawn to a flame. When the blood got to my wrist, I remember darting my tongue out to lick it from my wrist all the way up to my finger. The action sent chills coursing through my body and I can still taste the metallic substance every time I think about this moment.
