Crutches are deadly too

Just then the bell went.
Freddy didn't know whether it was saving him or just making things worse. He tried to lighten up the mood.
"I have French next. Adiós my favourite croissant."
Y/n laughed through a sigh. "Farewell Freeman." Was all he got in reply before she left.
Well that didn't clear anything up.
French and geography was boring. Not that Freddy payed attention anyway, his mind was pretty clouded without the extra added boredom. Well, not until he got called out for staring out of the widow anyway. The bell rang before he could even acknowledge the fact that they were learning about rainforests, not 'dans mon famille il y a'

For y/n it wasn't much different. Being a natural born daydreamer didn't really help either. Her mind kept wandering back the the new kid, Billy, and Freddy's obvious rudeness. She decided to leave it at the fact that boys were an unsolvable mystery. Although she left as soon as the bell rang, the crowded locker door didn't really help her escape from school situation.

Freddy was out before he could be drowned by the masses of students eager to go home. Apparently not early enough, because the next thing he knew he was sprawled on the floor practically underneath a shiny black car he knew all too well. The Breyer Brothers. Wherever he was, Brett and Burke Breyer always happened to be there too. Mary was at his side at once, helping him up.
"What the hell? What is wrong with you?" She cried at the two boys, drawing as much malice as she could into those words.
That didn't stop them from slamming Freddy into the car.
"No way that's gonna get out." Burke remarked, referring to the scratch on the car left by where they intentionally swerved to hit him.
"You gonna pay for that Freeman? Brett taunted.
"For the dent you made almost hitting me?" Freddie shot back. "Yeah, sure, do you guys take these?" He laughed, proud of himself for coming up with that.
Apparently they didn't take kindly to his middle fingers waved in front of their faces.
He was on the floor again. Man, that thing just loved him, couldn't keep itself away. Y/n should learn a lesson or two from it. Pain blossomed in his stomach as Brett sent a kick right into it.
Freddy could hear the screams of bystanders and the yells from Mary for Brett to stop.
"Don't touch my brother!" Darla cried.
This only fuelled them further.
"What, you need your fake family to stand up for you?" Burke laughed, and the two continued to taunt him, adding in a couple more kicks.
Suddenly Eugene had a pair of nunchucks in his hands.
"Back off assbags I know how to use these things!" He threatened while twirling them with apparent experience.
Turns out he didn't.
The nunchucks hit him on the back of his head making him groan in pain, while probably the only pain it caused the bullies were stitches from laughing that hard.

That was when y/n came out of the school gates. At first she froze, taking in the scene in front of her. Blood roared in her ears as her vision was tainted red. Nothing was more sick than bullying a kid with a disability . And this kid just happened to be her best friend Freddy. She raced down the stairs so fast the track team made a mental note to recruit her and grabbed the nearest weapon in her vision, which just so happened to be one of Freddy's crutches.
"Hey!" She yelled. "Beat it."
"Awww, has your girlfriend come to save you too?" Brett spat.
The next thing that came out of his mouth was a yelp of pain.
"I said-" y/n started, raising the crutch like a bat again. "Leave. Him. Alone." Each word followed by a hit.
That was when a certain boy in a black beanie came in with the other crutch. He hooked Burke square on the nose as y/n got Brett between his legs.
"Sorry, that wasn't really fair." Billy remarked before hitting each brother again. "But then again, you don't play fair."
As the brothers stumbled around, Billy took off. What followed were shouts of anger and the bumbling footsteps of his pursuers. Y/n knew she should probably help him, but couldn't bring herself to leave before checking up on Freddy. She whirled around and held out her hand to help him up.
"You ok?" She breathed, shocked at what had just happened.
"Yeah, I'm fine. That was total badass. Thanks."
Y/n smiled. "Who knew crutches were so deadly? Honestly you're like a trouble magnet. Keep out of it."
She turned to Darla. "I'm leaving him in charge of you. Take good care of him."
Darla grinned and nodded happily mumbling something along the lines of how she was a great sister.
"And Fred?" She turned back to face the dazed boy.
"Hm?"
"It's au revoir, not adiós. That's Spanish."
"Oh so that's why I'm failing. I thought it was just because of my stupidity."
She let out a loud laugh. "Seriously, stay safe."
She then turned and speed walked in the direction that Billy and the Breyers had ran in.

Freddy just stood there and watched her retreating back, becoming all the more infatuated by her.
Apparently she had also struck the interest of his family, as the next thing Mary said to him was:
"Who was that?"
