What a plot twist you were.
As we were getting out of the car to meet our new principle, noticed Auggie was acting nervous. "Don't worry. If anyone hurts your feelings they will be answering to me." I whispered. He looked up at me and nodded. "Thanks sis. You are the best sister ever." I smiled up at him and held his hand.
As we walked to the front of the school I saw a tall and somewhat elderly man. He seemed nice.
"Hi Mr. Tushman, nice to see you again." My mother said. "This is my son, August and my daughter, Nora."
Mr. Tushman looked right at Auggie and I and held his hand out for us to shake. "Hi August and Nora." He said normally. "It's a pleasure to meet you two." "Hi." We mumbled simultaneously.
"So," he said kneeling down so Auggie would look at him. Or both of us I think. "Your mom and dad have told me a lot about you two." "Like what have they told you?" Auggie asked
"Sorry?" Mr. Tushman asked.
"Honey, you have to talk louder." Said mom.
"Like what?" He asked louder.
"Well that you like to read and that you're a great artist."He nodded. "And you're into science, right?" He nodded again. "And you, Nora really like sports and are amazing a drawing. And you really like video games." I nodded.
"Well uh we have a couple of great science electives at Beecher." He said. "Maybe you two will make on of them?" "Uh-huh." Auggie said, even though he had no idea what an elective was.
"So are you ready to take the tour?" Mr. Tushman asked. "You mean we're doing that now?" Auggie asked. "Did you think we were going to the movies?" Mr. Tushman answered and stood up.
"You didn't tell us we were taking a tour." He said looking up at mom.
"Auggie...," she started to say.
"It'll be fine, August." Mr. Tushman said while holding his hand out to him. "I promise."
Instead of taking his hand, Auggie took mom's hand. Mr. Tushman smiled and lead us into the school.
To be honest, I was nervous as heck. I've only ever been homeschooled and I've heard people are very judgmental. Oh well, this is a new experience for me. What could go wrong?
