Giant: Noun, A being with human form with superhuman size.

"A giant. Most derived from ancient myths, urban legends and folklore songs. A being with the brains of a human, but the strength of a thousand. Towering over skyscrapers, it's massive size could easily render the inhabitants of planet Earth its' ability to live on."

"In the myths, giants were seen as brutes; some depicted as trolls that lived under the bridge, waiting to pounce onto its' unsuspecting prey. Whereas their size made them all-powerful and omniscient in the world of humans, they lacked the technology, the advancement we our many millennia of existence. And it was the lack of creativity, or the resources, that won us the Great Giant Wa-" RRRIIIIIIINNNNNGGGGG!!!

"Well kids, that's the bell, I'm sure you're all just dying to get home. So back you bags and remember to tuck your chairs in, I'll see you all tomorrow." I sigh inwardly as I rubbed my eyes, history lessons were already as boring as it was, much less at night where everyone just wants to sleep.

Exiting the front door, I waved at the receptionist that worked at the tuition centre, some nights just have to be like this for people like me to earn money. It was already late at night, specifically half past 9, and I was there alone on the streets; where is everyone? Well... it isn't really a big surprise really, for those who survived the mere glance of a giant, they were already as paranoid as they were.

The Great Giant War. It was a story for children, a lesson for teenagers, a myth to adults but... a nightmare for the soldier who died valiantly for planet Earth. It wasn't the greatest achievement mankind had ever made, it was dance with death, with the life of Earth flowing through the air... waiting to be breathed into extinction.

Giants weren't the most kindest aliens Earth had met, and they were certainly not the last. The way they looked so similar to mankind was shocking, as if it was destiny that we were doomed to go extinct for another top-predator. They spoke like us, acted like us, but... what was their true purpose on Earth?

Was it to find a source of water? A place to settle a new colony? Heck, for all we know, there might still be more out in space waiting for us to lower our guard. And the moment we did a 100 years ago, they came... feet trampling people like bugs, destroying cities as if they were models and killing everything in sight. It was a wonder really, how we survived all that.

The World United Association never leaked its' secrets, the way they destroyed god-like creatures or even the events that lead to the death of the last giants. Those who had lived till the end of the war had already died, the latest of which was 20 years ago. But even then no research was done on them, other then the giants came, they wrecked havoc, and were drove back into the hell they belong. It was a taboo to speak the words of the war, unless it was for educational purposes. Humankind had never been the same ever since.

But now, it was peaceful, the nights were clear with stars, the crickets chirping their tune and the mellow lamps that lit up the empty street. It was as if there wasn't any Earth-threatening event at all. Ah gods! I have to get back home, it's almost 11!

I hurried back home, and entered the silent house, I was greeted by the dust and grim my parents left when they went to a vacation to the last sighting of a giant, which was in Nevada. I plopped down onto the couch as I sighed loudly, there was college classes tomorrow... I have to sleep early.

Laying down on my bed as I switched off the lights, I turned to view the line of trees that grew right behind the house. The view itself wasn't spectacular in any way, it was just a place of fond memories. I was a young naughty child when I first climbed a tree, and it wasn't just any tree. The Redwood trees were by far the tallest trees in the world, some reaching the height of more than a dozen meters! It was that moment when I first found my spirit animal, a monkey; curious, playful and a great climber... oh what am I doing... I have things to do tomorrow.
