MY FANFICTION NEEDS MORE OSBY

So, here you go.

Grade school Oscar and Ruby.

-------------------------------------------------------

"Everyone welcome Oscar. His family just moved here," The third grade teacher said.

Ruby looked at the boy, who stood in front of the class, terrified.

Ruby's heart softened.

The class said "Hi, Oscar" in an incredibly bored tone.

He held a cane, which she thought was strange. The only people she knew who used canes were the elderly, like her granny's friends, but this boy was short and small and young-looking. He was not an old person.

"Take a seat next to Ruby, ok?" The teacher said, pointing to Ruby. Ruby smiled and waved.

Oscar eyed the girl next to him. She had white and black hair, she must dye it, even at this young age. She had a kind face and hazel eyes.

She was beautiful.

The teacher started to talk about fractions and Ruby noticed that this kid would not stop staring. She tried to ignore it.

But when they switched subjects and went on to reading, instead of paying attention to the books, he focused on the way Ruby's mouth moved, mouthing the words, but not saying them.

What was this fuzzy feeling in his chest? What was this girl doing to him?

Oscar didn't mean to stare, of course.

Ruby would glance up every now and then, to see if he had moved his attention to somewhere else, and every time, his eyes were still on her.

She grinned and pointed to her book.

Oscar blushed, caught in the act, and looked at his book.

Ruby took the bus home with her brothers. She sat alone while they sat together.

She saw Oscar get on the bus, looking for a place to sit, but since he arrived in the middle of the school year, friend groups were already established.

Ruby didn't have many friends, but it was a choice. Her classmates were either mean or uninterested in her.

Oscar zoned in on the seat next to Ruby and Ruby removed her backpack from the seat next to her and smiled at him.

He sighed in relief.

"Hi, Oscar," Ruby said.

"Hey, Ruby," Oscar replied. "I'm sorry about today... Your hair is just.."

"Yeah, my grandma helps me dye it," Ruby said.

"It's really cool."

"So how come you use a cane?" Ruby asked.

"I was born with a bone disease. And that's not even the most weird thing about me." Oscar replied.

"What's the weird thing?"

"Well, the reason my mom moved her. I died and then I came back to life with the powers to create and manipulate smoke. We moved here so I can join the renegades when I get older."

"Really? I have powers, too. See these bandages?"

Oscar nodded.

"It's because I have a wound there that never heals. My blood can turn into gemstones."

"That's so cool," Oscar said.

"Did you get the homework?"

"Like, understand it?"
