Chapter 10: Jaunedice | Part One |

Jaune gasped for air, while Cardin laughed. After getting up, Jaune charged at him, yelling out a battle cry.

Cardin simply dodged to the side, and attacked Jaune from behind. His large mace colliding with the boy. Jaune went flying, losing his shield in the process.

Cardin blocked Jaune's attack after he had swung his sword horizontally towards Cardin.

"This is the part where you lose." Cardin said, pushing Jaune back with more force than Jaune could handle.

"Over my dead- CUHOUGH-!"

Cardin had knee'd him in the stomach, instantly knocking the wind out of Jaune. Cardin hung his mace above his head, and was about to smash down. However he was stopped by Professor Goodwitch.

"Cardin, thats enough. Students, as you can see here, Mr. Ark's Aura has now dropped into the red. In a tournament style duel, this would signal that Jaune is no longer fit for battle and the officials may call the match. Mr. Arc, it's been weeks now, please try to refer to your scroll during combat. Gauging your Aura can help you decide when it is best to attack, and when it's best for a more defensive strategy. We don't wouldn't want you to be gobbled up by a Beowolf, now would we?"

"Speak for yourself." Cardin said while walking away.

Glynda began to remind students about the Vytal Festival. Y/N tuned her out, looking over to Jaune.

"Hmm."

"So . . . There we were . . . In the middle of the night."

"It was day."

"We were surrounded by Ursai . . . "

"They were Beowolves."

"DOZENS OF THEM!"

"Two of'em."

"But they were no match. And in the end, Ren and I took them down and earned a boatload of Lien selling Ursa skin rugs!"

Ren sighed after Nora told everyone this.

"She's been having this re-ocurring dream for nearly a month now."

Jaune looked depressingly at his food.

"Jaune, are you okay?" Pyrrha asked.

"Huh? Oh, Yeah! Why?"

"It's just that you seem a little . . . " Ruby trailed off.

"Not okay." Y/N finished, continuing to eat his food.

Jaune sat there for a moment. "Eh, Guys, I'm fine . . . Seriously, look!" He said while laughing nervously.

Y/N and the others looked over to Cardin and his friends mocking and making fun of a Brown-haired rabbit Faunus. Y/N's face becoming one of concern.

"Jaune, Cardin's been picking on you since the first week of school."

"Who? Cardin Winchester? Nah . . . He just likes to mess around, you know? Practical jokes!"

"He's a bully." Ruby said while scowling.

"Psst, Jaune, I can pull a few strings, y'know. Maybe get him some extra detention?" Y/N said while putting his hand to his mouth, cupping it slightly.

"C'mon guys, Name one time he's "bullied" me. . . "

Several times that Cardin has bullied him pop up, with one time Jaune being launched in a rocket locker.

Y/N didn't really pay attention to this however, focusing it on Cardin messing with the Faunus girl being messed with.

"-We'll brake his legs!" Y/N heard slightly.

He got up, Jaune got up as well.

"-Besides, it's not like he's only a jerk to me; he's a jerk to everyone."

"Ooww, that hurts!" the Faunus girl cried, Cardin Winchester pulling her ears.

Y/N began to make his way over there, while Cardin payed no attention to him.

"Ahem, Mr. Winchester." Y/N said with a hint of anger in his voice.

"What do you want? Oh hey, you're the guy thats like an assistant or something here."

"Yes, I'm "the guy." Now, could you please refrain from pulling Miss Scarlatina's ears?"

"Hmm, why should I?" Cardin said cockily.

"One, I am kinda the supervisor here to make sure students don't get hurt and two, Faunus' ears are sensitive. As she has said before, it's hurting her. Stop grabbing her ears."

"Hmph," Cardin stood up, about an half an inch taller than Y/N.

"Is this an intimidation attempt? I must say, you are being quite dumb right now. You do realize I can go to Professor Goodwitch and explain what is happening."

Cardin scowled.

"Or perhaps you would rather physical punishment?" Y/N said while looking up, seemingly considering the idea.

Cardin turned around, "C'mon guys, let's go. I'd rather not spend another minute in front of a freak like him and her." Cardin continued while looking at the Faunus girl and Y/N.

"Thank you . . . " she said turning to Y/N.

"No problem Miss Scarlatina!" He said warmly.

Y/N began to go back to the table.

Meanwhile, back at the table:

"Atrocious. I can't stand people like him." Pyrrha said with a scowl on her face.

"He's not the only one." Blake said.

"It must be hard to be a Faunus." Yang frowned.

"Alrighty, I'm back." Y/N sighed while sitting down.

"Heyo Y/N." Ruby said.

they started to converse, not really noticing Jaune sighing while he left the lunch room. Meanwhile Cardin was looking at Jaune with interest. The kind of interest someone who wants revenge has.
