Ella's POV- December 2019
I placed the 4 toasted slices of bagel on two plates and as I was slicing through the avocado, someone spoke up.
"Morning"
I glanced up as I removed the pit.
"Morning" I greeted Theo.
I turned my attention back to making Nora and mines breakfast. Just as I scooped out the avocado, Theo spoke up.
"Are you ever going to speak to me?"
"I just did" I replied.
He sighed.
"Ella, I said I was sorry"
"I know, I've heard you say it many times" I noted.
I could feel his stare as I mashed the avocado.
"When are you going to accept my apology?"
I looked at him.
"I'll accept it when you mean it" I answered.
I turned my attention back to spreading the avocado on the slices of toasted bagel.
"I do mean it"
I hummed and reached for the sprouts after I spread avocado on the bagel slices.
"Sure you do" I responded.
"Why don't you believe me?"
I looked at him.
"Because I stopped believing in what comes out of your mouth a long time ago" I told him.
I added some everything bagel seasoning and looked at my phone when it chimed.
"And if you will excuse me, I've got somewhere to be" I stated.
I slipped on my backpack, placed my phone in my pocket and then grabbed the two plates. He followed me out, so there was no need to lock up.
"Good morning" I greeted Nora.
She smiled and waved in Theo's direction as she accepted one of the two plates.
"You have no idea how happy you've made me"
I laughed and went around. As I got into the car, she gestured at the cup holders.
"I brought you your smoothie"
"Thank you" I answered.
She took a bite of her bagel and closed her eyes as she savored it.
"Not that I mind coming, but where's Chris?" I wondered.
She sighed.
"Dealing with contract negotiations"
Fun.
"How are you feeling?" I asked.
"My back is killing me"
She was due in February, which meant she had a little less than 2 months left of her pregnancy.
"I've been carrying her low"
"That's bad, right?" I wondered.
The tone in her voice led me to believe that yes, it was bad.
"It's sometimes a sign that labor is approaching"
"She hasn't cooked long enough though," I said.
Nora smiled and nodded as she backed out of the driveway.
"Exactly"
I see.
