"This way!" I exclaimed, shooing great masses of people around and directing them to the nearest airports.
Minor earthquakes started to occur everywhere due to the land mass moving across the sea, on top of Torrent now attacking from every direction possible. Even worse, the landmass was now shrinking because of Torrent breaking off chunks of it.
"Ilesha, you can't possibly stay here!"
Vasili, Hana and Linus were heading towards me, Vasili and Linus both equipped with kangaroo shoes.
"I can! I need to make one last scan across town for remaining people, then I'll go!"
"We can't let you die here, you need to go with us!"
"I have a duty to fullfill."
"Can we help in some way?" Linus stuttered. He knew I wanted to be the hero in this situation and he respected that.
I knew I wouldn't be able to scan the whole town in time without Torrent killing me and I still clinged onto my life. So I complied.
"You can. I offer we split up and scan the town in three sectors. When we find someone, we direct them to the airport and immediately continue searching."
Both of them nodded, Vasili jumped off carrying Hana in his grip. She smiled at me, as Linus disappeared in the opposite direction.
My first stop was at Pirets' house, I couldn't let her possibly die. Which meant that I would have to deal with her stubbornness and refusal to leave until everyone was saved. Typical deadlock situation.
Nobody could have prepared me for Piret storming out of her house before I even knocked on the door. She had her kangaroo shoes fully equipped.
"Do you like them? These kicks are from a model that hasn't been released to the public yet."
"Piret, I'm so glad you're safe!"
Together, we started to jump off and scan the town. She immediately understood what I was doing, no questions asked.
"Are you the reason behind everyones' sudden disappearance to the airports?"
"Maybe, maybe not."
"I admire how brave you are."
Her words made me feel all warm and giddy inside. This gave me motivation.
"Let's split up - I will head to the shore and the local schools, you scan the town centre. How does that sound?"
"Perfect. See you around!"
With that, she disappeared into the alley where Torrent charged at me yesterday. I had little to no time to fully scan the centre, so I only visited the most populated areas. The ground under me was shaking every so often and throwing me off the feet sometimes.
Over the span of a few hours, I managed to retreive at least seven hidden people and direct them to the nearest airport - while it may not seem like much, every life is worth saving.
The hours in which I could freely roam the city were drawing to a close, but as I returned to the location I originally met Vasili and the others, I saw nothing there.
Nothing.
The path to the airport I planned on fleeing to was cut off and the chunk of land drifted off into the aggressive waters.
So, this was it.
That's how I would die.
