"I can tell on the phone
you miss me more than your home
And it breaks my heart
to see you in pieces"
Cedric POV
"Welcome, Alpha Veiler, so glad you could make it." Councilman Cole stands when I enter the room, stretching his arms wide to motion to the whole board room. 7 pairs of eyes land on me. Not every Council member is here. There's easily over 50 members, but not all of them are on standby all the time.
I haven't been in the room in years. Now I know why. As soon as the doors close, I feel like I've been doused with ice cold water. I hate it here.
Slithering into the closest leather chair, I bordely acknowledge the male I've come to despise over the last few years. As soon as he became part of the Council, I hated him.
"Cole." I say simply. That ought to satisfy him for now. I've never liked the lycan, he hasn't been on the council long, it's been less than 100 years at least.
His thick, red mustache crinkles up when he notices my bored tone. Councilman Cole glances around at the other members. He clearly meant to impress them by sucking up to me, but it didn't work out in his favor.
I catch Councilwoman Ardeta roll her eyes. They must be used to the imbecile by now. She clears her throat, turning to observe me through small, rectangular glasses. If I remember correctly, vampires don't need glasses to be able to see. In fact, their vision is superb. It has to be a fashion choice, albeit a not very good one.
"We are pleased to have you join us, as you know this is a high profile case. We need the best." She explains, and a few papers ruffle on the table.
Glancing over, I'm not surprised to see Councilman Harare shaking his head. His pointed ears and scent are enough to tell anyone he's a Faerie. Those harsh, pale features are another indication.
"We have many options as to who is best for this mission. The majority of them being from my realm." He pushes his long, white hair aside. A pleased smile on his face as he openly brags about his kind. "The only reason you're here, Veiler, is because you have a history with this Red Alpha. You can help us."
I'm not offended by the insults he sneers at me, or the way he looks at me over his pointy nose. I've never had a good relationship with the Fae. They're not fond of me. It's probably because I'm not shy about my distaste for them. Despite the fact that they can't lie, I don't trust them.
I clear my throat, already miserable at this meeting even though I haven't been here longer than a few minutes.
"To be transparent, I haven't actually seen the Red Alpha. Yes, he attacked my pack, but not on pack grounds. A group of my pack members were out on a supply run when they were ambushed. The only way we knew it was the Red Alpha was behind it was Ryk. He killed my Gamma." I explain, hoping they might reconsider asking me to partake in this particular mission.
They ignore my comment. Apparently a personal vendetta is good enough for them.
"Ryk has been spotted. There's a little werewolf pack settled in West Virginia, only a few hours from here." Ardeta explains in her thick, scottish accent. I nod slowly. I know her parents, and they're good vamps. They rely on me to look out for her when I can.
