The sound of my phone ringing jolted me from my sleep. Half-asleep, I reached to grab it. "Uhh?" I answered it, still lying under my covers.
It was dark in my room, sunlight barely coming through the curtains. I blinked, the blinding light from my phone hurting my eyes.
"Viktor! Guess what!" It was Azalea's voice.
I put the phone by my head and got comfy again. "It's four in the morning, Aza, go to bed," I grumbled.
"I can't, I'm too excited about what I'm gonna tell you!" Aza was loud in my silent bedroom.
"Please, tell me later? I get an hour more of sleep." I shut my eyes.
"Yea, I guess you'll find out. Can't wait to see you at school, sleepyhead!" Aza quieted herself down.
"G'night." I found myself falling into a world of slumber.
Then, I realized what she had said. She'd see me at school? She didn't originally go to my school, so I guess she must've joined my school?
I got so curious that I sat up. "Hey, actually, could you tell me what you're so excited about?"
"My mom enrolled me in your school! Isn't that great?" She told me.
I quickly weight out the pros and cons. "Pretty awesome. I can't wait to introduce you to my friends, I think they'll like you."
"How many friends do you have?" Aza asked, sounding even more excited than before.
"Two- No, three, there's Harper- about four close friends, and then a pack of about twelve friends I don't hang out a lot with, and then I've got about half the school saying that they're my friend," I answered.
I heard a dog bark in the background. "Ooh, are you popular?"
"Yep. Aside from the bullies, I'm known around the whole school." I turned on my lamp, grabbed my phone, and went to get dressed.
"Oh, boy. What kind of bullies?"
"Ones who think they're hot but really aren't, they'll flirt with you and then backstab you. Almost literally. There's this guy I hate, his name is Angel Barkingson, he's a real jerk. He thinks he's all cool for being a vampire, but he's just a lame bitten-born. He's actually bitten a girl's neck before." I pulled on a nice shirt and changed out of my sleep shorts, putting on some dark-blue jeans.
"Oh my god. Will you protect me from him?" Aza asked, changing her voice to a scared-yet-joking voice.
"Yes, I will protect you with every bit of my power. Ain't nobody gonna hurt the cutest girl in the school!" I answered, smiling to myself as I put in a pair of contact lenses.
My bedroom door opened. "Who are you talking to?" Mom asked, yawning. Her canine teeth were longer than most people's.
"Aza. Her mom enrolled her in my school!" I grinned at mom.
"Ohh, that's nice. She's gotta like you a ton to ask to do that." Mom looked happy.
"Yea! I can't wait to show her around!" I pulled on a pair of socks.
"Mhmm. Why are you up this early?" Mom asked.
"Because I called him." Aza stepped into the conversation.
"Great. I'll go make you a nice breakfast, since you're up early this morning, Viktor." Mom came in, affectionately messed up my freshly-combed hair, and left.
"I hope it's waffles," I said once I knew mom had gone downstairs.
"Bet it's pancakes." I knew that Aza would be smiling.
