So I read a ddlb story and the cover was cutesy so I thought, "This is going to be sweet." There were no warning tags. I start reading and it's not. The dom is abusive, he isn't nurturing, he's controlling, he allows his baby to be hurt and doesn't do anything about it, and he just is a shitty example of what a ddlb relationship is about. I read the comments and people are like, "Awww," or "That's hot!"
So many of these stories I've been reading the last week on wattpad are full of...CRIMES. Like hardcore crimes people would go to jail for in real life and readers are getting twisted ideas on what healthy relationships look like. And these stories are fairly new to the platform.
Kidnapping a person without their consent or some sort of negotiation is a CRIME!
An adult (18+) having sex with anyone under eighteen is a CRIME!
Raping a person-forcing them to have sex against their will without consent or negotiation is a CRIME!
Forcing a person into any sort of 'lifestyle' (submission, slavery, ddlb, ddlg, mdlb, mdlg, feminization, celibacy etc) without their consent or negotiation is a CRIME!
Striking/beating/whipping a person for refusing to go along with another's whims is a CRIME!
Taking over someone's life without their consent is a Crime!
Stalking someone is a Crime!
Threatening someone is a Crime!
Attempted murder...hello - CRIME!
Doesn't anyone know the law where they live? I'm sure the laws on these things are fairly universal. I know this is only fiction but try to inject some reality into it.
And for the love of god, WRITERS, stop romanticizing this shit with the main characters. Please! It's not romantic. It's not loving. I'm sick of the Stockholm shit. Just stop. Trauma is a thing and your abused character isn't going to react the way they are being written.
If you must turn a shitty beginning into a happy ending then show some repentance on the part of the dominant partner. Show them being punished in some form. Show them being trained or changing their ways. This "I beat you/rape you/mistreat you" today and "cuddle with you my snuggle bun buns" tonight shit is old.
Valentines is coming. Show them real love.

HumorJust random thoughts about things that writers do that irk me as a reader. Fueled by caffeine, lack of sleep, or reaction to something I've read. Take none of this serious! Be offended at your own risk.
