6. The Sweetest Apology Note

As usual I ride with Harris in Lucas' car in the morning. Luckily Harris doesn't seem to notice the awkward glances exchanged between Lucas and I via the rear vision mirror on the way to school.

He hasn't apologised or anything and I'm not even sure if it's worth hooking up with him because my mind and my insides are a mess. But when I glance up and catch his eyes and I feel an energy run through me. The excitement makes me feel on edge in the best way possible.

I can't help but think that it really is worth it. He hasn't really had a chance to apologise though - considering Harris has been with him the whole time.

As soon as we get to the parking lot at school Harris speeds off to who knows where. I feel so grateful that now I can speak with Lucas. Or at least it gives him the chance to apologise to me for yesterday.

Then we can make out again maybe in the janitors closet? Jokes... unless he wants to.

Seriously though I slowly pull my books out of his car and wonder if he might even carry them or walk me to my locker or class. As soon as I am out I look up at him to see him lock the door and stride off without a glance at me.

My stomach drops so fast I feel like I need to be sick. He is already through the front doors of the halls before I can register that he did it on purpose. I can't help but scowl as I walk straight to my first class with a scowl.

Spent the whole class doing absolutely nothing except wandering what was up with Lucas. Did he even like me? Because he sure wasn't acting like it. Maybe he just thought I was hot for a make out. The thought makes me blush. But then I think about how indifferent he was after our make out and again this morning when Harris wasn't even there. I'm back to my slouching scowl.

At lunch I finally join the football table after a week of hiding in the library. No one seems to mention or notice my recent absence except for Matt who plonks himself down beside me. "Been busy studying?" He asked casually eating his sandwich like a normal human one piece at a time.

He was probably the only guy at our table who had table manners. Everyone else would not hesitate to  shove half a sandwich into their mouth at a time. And speak with their mouths full. Most of the time I don't notice but days like today it was like lunching at the zoo.

"Yeah, got a bit stuck in chemistry," I say as I fiddle with my own sandwich not feeling particularly hungry.

"I have egg and salad if you prefer?" He offers.

I smile, he could be a bit of a fudgscile sometimes but he was definitely the charmer of the team.

"Thanks but I'm not that hungry," I say trying not to glance at Lucas. Completely failing at keeping my eyes off him. "You can have mine, it's just Vegemite," I offer Matt.

His face screws up.

"No thank you, what are you some kind of sicko?" He leans away eyeing me off.

I can't help but let a giggle slip.

"No, my aunt loves it and she got me onto it as a kid, it's actually good if you want to try," I hold my sandwich out for him.

With lightning reflexes he grabs the offending sand which and tosses it over his shoulder straight into the bin.

My mouth drops open.
