(Delilah's POV)

I was walking down the dark sidewalk towards books and beans, speed walking my way over more like it.I wanted to get there early as to avoid people in the dark alleyways but seeing as that my GPS said otherwise and decided to take a shortcut through an alley.Me being the dumb person I am,I followed it and didn't see the shadow ahead of me.

A man came out of the shadows holding a gun to my head and said in a very gruff voice "Give me your purse and no one gets hurt."

"No." I said stubbornly and held my purse closer to me,I know it was stupid but I was a very stubborn person.

The mugger, getting impatient decided to grab me by the arm and try to pry my purse out of my iron grip but accidentally pulled the trigger.Feeling the sharp pain,I felt like I was floating but I was actually falling onto the hard ground, the last thing I saw was the mugger running off empty handed.I guess someone had heard the gun go off because someone was there instantly calling 911 and trying to tell me everything would be okay.As the person was talking,I couldn't really hear him, everything was distant and muffled so it wasn't really helping.I could feel myself slipping into unconsciousness and I finally closed my eyes, letting black cover my vision.

(Collin's Pov)

To say I was nervous for this date, was an understatement and that I was terrified but now that an hour had passed,I was starting to think that she only thought of me as a friend.Sighing,I looked at Lana who shrugged then my phone started ringing.

"Hello?"I asked not bothering to look at the caller ID.

"Hi,is this Collin?" A man on the phone asked and I was really confused.

"Yes,this is."I answered the man and he sighed like he had been crying.

"I'm sorry to say this, but your friend Delilah is in the hospital."The man said and my blood froze.

"What happened?" Was all I could manage to get out and a sigh came from the other end as if I was wasting this guys time making my blood boil in rage.

"She was found in a dark alleyway with a gunshot wound to her abdomen. We suspect a mugging gone wrong and the guy took off and ran.Delilah still had everything on her." The man said and a tear fell from my eyes.

"Ill be there as soon as I can." I managed to choke out and hung up the phone.

This was all my fault,I should've walked with her that way this would never have  happened and she would be okay, safe in my arms.As I walked to the front door of the bookshop,Lana looked at me with a worried expression and she somehow got the hint that my date was cancelled.

"I'll drive you to the hospital"Lana said sadly giving my shoulder a reassuring squeeze and I looked at her shocked.

"How did you know?"I asked and the woman gave me a sad smile.

"I'm a nosy person, and you had the call on speaker phone."Lana said with a laugh and I looked down at his phone.

"Oh shit,I had no idea."I said with a sad smile and a few tears fell,he was really worried about Delilah.

Lana and I got into her car, driving to the hospital that Delilah was in while I couldn't get my mind off Delilah and how she was all alone when she got shot and I wasn't there to save her.

Lana looked at me and said "Hey,she'll be okay. I'm sure the doctors have it all under control."

I looked at her and nodded silently, not really believing her due to all my worry going on in my head.Slip the Noose by The Maine came on the radio and I couldn't help but break down at the lyrics because I knew Delilah saved me.I felt empty somehow without her bright smile, even though she didn't really know me that day at the record shop, she showed genuine kindness to me.Its not something you see everyday or really any day because usually not a lot of people love life the way they should or compare themselves to others. That's what was different about Delilah, she was so full of love and life that it just radiated off of her and it made me smile so much that I wanted to be with her always.Lana had turned into the hospital parking lot and brought me out of my thoughts.

"We're here."Lana said as she got out of the car and slung her purse over her shoulder.

I quickly got out of the car and bolted to the hospital door stopping at the nurse's station catching my breath.A young nurse smiled at me kindly almost flirtatiously.

"Hi,what can I do for you?"The nurse who's name tag I read was named Taylor said still giving me this really weird smile.

"Yeah I'm looking for a patient, her name is Delilah Brighton." I said making it clear I wasn't available and the nurse gave me a deflated look then typed the name into her computer.

"Well,"she said "It looks like shes still in surgery but if you wait in the waiting room,we'll come and let you know when shes out."

I nodded solemnly, walking into the waiting room I just felt miserable not knowing whether Delilah was okay or not. It drove me up the wall not knowing as I sat in that colorless waiting room.

(Delilah's Pov)

"Help!" I called only seeing black around me which scared me even more due to the fact that I had no idea where I was.

I couldn't comprehend what happened and all of a sudden I was in an operating room where I could see my body being worked on.I was on a cold metal slab and I had no idea whether I was going to live or die. That was whats scary.

I looked down at my motionless body and thought 'Am I dead?' Oh god I'm dead and I might not wake up ever. I was frantic at this point as my spirit self ran out of the operating room,at this point I was already lost but didn't give a shit.Sighing I say against the wall by the door, not wanting to see myself opened up on that slab,it pained me too much to see.I just waited for something to happen and to be alright because there was no way I was going to go out now just because of a damn gunshot wound,at least that's what it looked like.
