The human race has been under the thumb of statism for the sum of recorded history- when statism is defined as codified hierarchical relationships between people. While it is impossible to pinpoint a singular incident in human history as triggering the formation of centralized systems of authority, we can observe why the state still exists. Statism retains its power because it has thoroughly convinced everyone that it is necessary for prosperity. They are spoon-feeding lies down our gullets. Humans have been selected, conditioned, groomed, and trained to accept the 'necessity' of leaders- indoctrinated into this mindset of subservience from birth. If one were to ask Joe Shmoe, they would likely say that 'without the government, people would descend into chaos.'
Regardless of one's thoughts on human nature, any justification for authority fails. If people are naturally good, then statism is superfluous since people would not do ill in its absence. If humanity is a mixed bag, we stand as much to lose to a liar as we could gain from a saint. If humans are inherently evil or wicked, then what sort of foolish dopes must we be to give one despot more power than another, with which to wreak havoc? Modern racism, sexism, homophobia, and other intolerances are the product of living under a hierarchical institution and consuming the falsely constructed relationship of might, right, and authority. Instilled in the proletariat's underlying schemas and understanding of the world around them leaves them little choice than to perpetuate it through everyday interactions. The mindset for intolerance is born when one believes authority is right, and in some circumstances, innate to exercise over others.
Governments are to citizens as parents are to infants. We are not infants. A hierarchy is beneficial for securing the safety of less intelligent beings like llamas or infants. Humanity is adult and capable of making rational-informed decisions and organizing en mass without leaders. Individuals outgrow reliance on their parent(s). Humankind has not outgrown the government similarly; it has never fit. We merely have been relocating and masking the inadequacies of the state: a revolution here for the better, a coup for the worse, foreign exploitation to boost domestic interests, and wars to reassign the name in the blame game for the current issues at hand. The existence of such a large government is offensive to humanity's potential.
Being neither imbecilic nor infantile, a government is to society what a toxic lover is to their unfortunate victim with abandonment issues. This duo is ill-paired, but the abused stays because they have remained in this state so long that they fear being without or ending up worse. They feel they no longer know how to live outside their toxic relationship. Therefore, they stay and try in vain to improve their circumstances from within. It is time to dump said lover. Another day is another ounce of power they hold over you. It is time to cut the marionette strings and walk on one's own, rather than curse another generation to this sick perversion of love. Adults are capable of communicating and organizing constructively without an authority backed by a monopoly of violence, telling them to do so. Since Mesopotamia, there has been documentation and stories told of rulers imposing this harrowing condition on man.
Times, places, names, and faces all change, but it remains that there are the haves and have-nots. Looking beyond the extents of one's country of residence, out of sight and mind, buying freedom is the impoverishment of others. Under capitalism, even something as lauded as a UBI (Universal Basic Income) would never work. Because of supply and demand, if everyone had more money, it would be worth less, and no change would occur. A UBI would only work to liberate one from stress so long as others are impoverished further.
Humanity has a left foot, and hierarchy readily furnished a right boot to hinder and stunt us. They called it the government and left us unable to walk as far or run as fast. There exists a left boot where humankind is adult- moving on from tiny-tot-land and on into a brave new world. Accepting a proper fitting boot, free of our handicap, the human race can reach higher intellectual and social heights. While the lower limit on man is also removed, out innate goodness will steer us clear of the bottom. After millennia tweaking the right boot, trying on the inverse will undoubtedly be daunting. Do you perhaps find it exhilarating?
