Breaking The Curse

Chapter 3

I pulled into the driveway and rushed into the house, I yelled her name at the top of my lungs as I ran up the stairs.

As I walked into the bedroom I found her fast asleep under the covers. I placed my lips upon her forehead she was cold to the touch.

"Adeline" I whispered, shocking her out of her sleep. "What's happening?" she asked.

I massaged my temples letting out a loud sigh of relief, "where have you been?"

"Hospital baby!" she yawed. Come to bed, it feels so empty without you beside me. 

"Why are you frozen?"

She turned onto her side and pointed towards the open window, "ooh" I felt so foolish at the moment thinking she had died in her sleep.

She yanked me down and wrapped her cold arms around me absorbing my heat. 

I laid awake staring at the ceiling all night trying to wrap my head around where she had been, obviously she wasn't at the hospital so where was she? 

"She wouldn't betray me, would she?"

The alarm clock went off causing her to stir, I shut it off immediately not wanting to wake her up to witness me putting up the Christmas decorations.

I grabbed everything from the attic and made my way down the steps trying to be as quiet as a mouse, before I knew it she stood in front of me rubbing her big beautiful eyes.

"What are you doing Cory?"

"I'm sorry Honey go back to sleep I will be bu your side within an hour, I just want to do some work."

She was obviously over tired to realize the box I had in my hand, all she done was peck my lips and went back into the room shutting the door behind her.

I spent an hour setting up the decorations and white Christmas tree which she practically begged me for, the tree sparkled in the dark illuminating the entire dinning room.

I was proud of myself for all the effort I put in trying to make this Christmas memorable for us, yet I dreaded the idea of her putting the topper on which had already claimed two precious lives.
