The drive to the scene of the crime is quiet. I have no need to start a conversation with the detective in the drivers seat, and he clearly doesn't want to start one with me. He has shown time again that he does not appreciate androids. However, he has his moments when he's not a complete imbecile. A rare occasion.
We pull up to a small house in the suburbs, police tape covering the entrance. Already, there are multiple officers at the scene securing the area, some android and some human. "You better not annoy me in there, got it?" detective Reed insists harshly.
"Sure, whatever you say." He's not convinced but gets out of the car, I follow suit. I observe the surroundings. A woman and a child sit in the back of an ambulance, a human officer in front of them taking notes. We walk inside the house and at first glance, two dead bodies lay beside the staircase; in a pool of their own blood.
"Damn what the hell?" the detective exclaims. "How long ago did this happen?"
"About a few hours ago. The mans wife and son are outside being questioned," an older man walks up to us and informs us. I scan him. Detective Ben Collins. Senior detective in the Detroit Police Department.
"I saw," detective Reed replies. "What's the story so far?"
"We're not completely sure. The wife, Clara Ambers, doesn't have much information about the situation. She was in the backyard, when she heard gunshots and came into the house to find their dead bodies. Charlie Ambers, her son, hasn't spoken a word since the incident. His mom found him in front of his father. They had an android, but it hasn't been seen since.""So the android did this then."
"Most likely, but he took off," Detective Collins replies. We reach the dead bodies.
"Tyler Ambers and Maya Reynolds. Both shot. She was the maid of the house," he says.
"Why did they have a maid if they had an android?" Reed asks.
"Not sure. Kind of confused about that one too."
"Is there any information about the motivation of the murder?" I ask.
"Not that we know of. If we can get the kid to talk then maybe we'll find out more," Collins says, then looks at me up and down as if seeing me for the first time. "Gavin, you're working with an android?"Detective Reed laughs hysterically. "It's ridiculous isn't it? She wouldn't leave me alone. Kept bothering me to get to this case. Apparently she needed a partner and I was the only one available. Just my luck." He shakes his head and rolls his eyes. I give him a smirk in return.
"What is she? A new model? I've never seen this android before," Collins says.
"Don't know, don't care. Didn't even bother to ask."
"Detective Reed, I told you about my model already," I counter.
"Oh I know. It just went in one ear and out the other," he laughs. What an incompetent and obnoxious detective they gave me to work with."My name is Celeste. I'm a prototype sent by CyberLife. My uniform indicates my model and serial number," I explain to Detective Collins.
"Hmm. . .so a new type of cop android or something? What's wrong with the ones we have now?"
"Like I said, I don't give a damn," Reed says."Well. . .I'm going to go see if they found anymore information." Collins walks outside.
"Briefings over, time to investigate," Detective Reed says out loud.I take this opportunity to scan the faces of the deceased. The man. Tyler Ambers, age 37. One bullet hole in his head.
Maya Reynolds. The maid. Age 25. Three bullet wounds. One punctured the left ventricle of her heart, the other lodged in her chest cavity and the last shattering her third rib.
