┃CHAPTER FIVE┃
"I wanted to explain, but my soul was tied up in knots" d.j
"DO YOU THINK I'M AN IDIOT?" KAI QUERIED Kennedy with a scoff. The last several hours were spent deliberating ideas and plans to elude the prison world. Kennedy was relaxing on the couch, knees tucked underneath her and bundled up in her childhood blanket.
"Yes, I do." Kennedy rolled her eyes before glancing back down at one of the books she was reading--trying to amass any information about other dimensions and spells. Granted, Kennedy wasn't a witch, but she was able to understand what spells did what, dark magic or not. Kai narrowed his eyes at the girl, her retort irked him, but also made him brainsick.
"I am your only hope of getting out of here, Kenny." Kai mentioned, eyes glancing upwards at the girl. Kennedy dog folded the top of the page before slamming the book shut. The loud, sudden sound didn't scare Kai like she was hoping. Her siblings would do that to her all the time when she would be minding her business in her bedroom, working on school assignments.
"That's funny because you've been stuck here for how many years now?" Kennedy raised her eyebrows at Kai. The man felt like a cat bit his tongue, unable to come back with anything to say to the teenager. Once again, the attitude she pursued him with only made things more exciting. Kennedy didn't degrade him or particularly make fun of him, this was a new feeling to him that he was attracted to. Kennedy on the other hand, was convinced Kai's a full class idiot. Maybe he only makes a fool out of himself when he's around her.
"Maybe it's because I've been here alone and I just needed some assistance, especially as someone as—"
"Kai—I think it's time I go to bed. My head isn't feeling any better from yesterday." She sighed as she closed her eyes and pinched the bridge of her nose. Kennedy knew there would be a way out of her, there is always a loophole in magic: however, at this moment she felt like they were working on an impossible mission. "Tomorrow we should get out of this town and head on over to Mystic Falls. I know a few people who might have better resources than all of this shit."
Kai's eyes lit up, "A road trip? With you? I'll put on my favorite cassette tape and we can have a mini karaoke party on the way there."
The young girl looked at him in a puzzled manner. Did she take pity on him? Slightly. She could never understand the pain he went through, the loneliness for years on end—she ached for him when he wasn't constantly bickering her. "We can do that—only if you don't watch me sleep tonight." Kennedy proceeded to get off the couch, holding her blanket to her chest before she went upstairs.
Kai admired the girl as she trailed her blanket behind her, hoping that if she slept tonight, he would think of her once again.
Kennedy held her blanket tightly to her chest, eyes peering out the window. She rubbed her eyes, attempting to get rid of the blurriness that fogged her vision. Silence echoed around the house, no creaks in the floorboard or muffled conversations through the walls. Thick acrid smell of smoke crept through her windowsill, observing the sparks and ashes dancing in the wind with her family. Each of the members danced rhythmically around the flames, throwing unknown objects in the pit, leaving Kennedy curious why they were spiral dancing. Envy consumed Kennedy, only keeping her more lonelier than ever. Her siblings kept her on the outside looking in.
