┃CHAPTER SIX┃
"you're warm and i'd like to spend awhile with you"
"HAVE YOU EVER THOUGHT JUST...CRASHING YOUR CAR?" KAI ABRITRAILY ASKED Kennedy as she kept her eyes focused on the road in front of her. Pursing her lips, she tilted her head to the side. Clicking her tongue after a very few brief seconds of thinking, she shook her head.
"No, I haven't. Have you?" She stole a glance at the man beside her, chewing the bottom of her lip. She wasn't expecting Kai to be staring at her or watching her drive, she must've developed tunnel vision at this point in the drive. Simply, how could he not stare at Kennedy? Kai dreamt about her last night; however, he wasn't as thrilled as it progressed.
"Stefan!" Kennedy gasped as his arms wrapped around her waist, holding her tightly to his chest and rested his chin on her shoulder. The warmth of his breath against the back of her neck sent chills down her spine. Being in his arms was a new found comfort she never felt with anyone else. The feeling in her gut knew that Stefan would never do anything to hurt her, that this was her safe haven. The night and the stars crept above the canopy of the forest, just the two alone with each other.
"Shh, someone might hear you." He hushed into her ear, before pressing his lips against her ear. The two always met at a spot in the middle of the woods, a place where her parents wouldn't discover Stefan. There was a sense of thrill, sneaking behind her parent's backs. She already had been deemed the black sheep of the family and of the coven; her reputation was beyond repairable in the Clark family as far as she was concerned. Kennedy would have much preferred him in her bedroom or by the fireplace, but any supernatural creature other than witches weren't allowed across their property line, vampires specifically forbidden.
Stefan spun her around so she would be facing him. There was a glimmer of hope and love in Kennedy's eyes, foolishly in love already with someone. He was drawn to her, but not quite like how he was drawn to Katherine or Elena, but at this state, she was oblivious to the fact that's why he returned to Mystic Falls. The feeling he felt towards Kennedy was simple; pure and ethereal. Kennedy had an aurora he couldn't resist, same with other supernatural creatures.
She wrapped her arms around her neck as his hands adjusted around her waist, keeping her close. "Be quiet? What, do you plan on killing me so soon?" She teased before brushing her lips against his, before he kissed her.
"It wasn't on my schedule for a few more weeks." He whispered looking at her, a smug grin crept on his face. He tucked a strand of her hair behind her ear, "You know I would never do that, Kenny." He took a serious turn on the conversation, trying to reassure her that she would always be safe with him.
She cupped his face and chewed on the bottom of her lip, she wanted to say something--anything, but instead, she kissed him and he liked the way it burned, as if there was a halo in her mouth.
"Kai? Hello?" Kennedy tried grabbing his attention, but he stuck in that memory, a wave of jealousy that crashed upon him. He resented Steven--Stefan, whatever his name was. His gut twisted and knotted, that was supposed to be him. Kai could not care less about Stefano and how he made Kennedy feel, that information was utterly useless. How cruel the world was, reminding him of what he had yet to receive, affection and love. "Kai?" Her silvery voice caught his attention finally, snapping back into reality.
"Huh?" The knot in his stomach released when he saw her misgiving face. Logically, he knew there was no need to feel...jealously? Stephen was not a threat, given the fact it was just the two in their own little world.
"Have you ever thought about crashing the car? I believe that's impulsive thinking. A lot of people who have those impulsive thoughts wouldn't typically act upon it, even though they think it's themselves telling them to do so." She rambled, glancing back and forth between the road and Kai.
Shifting in his seat, he shrugged. "I've thought about it, I've done it, and it gave me a sore back when I woke up."
The response wasn't what Kennedy thought it would be, but yet a ghoulish feeling tinged in her neck and blood rushes to her ears. She slammed on the brakes and covered her ears, shaking her head. Kai yanked forward against the material of the seatbelt, letting out a childish laugh. "Wow! Kenny, was that you trying to crash the car? Usually you press on the gas with that power, not the brakes." He talked to her in a childish tone, as if she simply made a silly decision.
A sensation of air catching her body and landing on a harsh impact made her gasp in pain. She quickly got out of the car, gasping for air as she held onto her stomach. The asphalt prickled her skin, opening up flesh on her knees. She tried to focus on something else, other than the pain searing throughout her body. The first thing that caught her interest was the army of trees, trying to focus on one specific tree, but the pain only intensified. Kai peered over the center console, making sure she was okay. Her behavior only made him befuddled, slowly unclasping his seatbelt and walking around the car.
"Kai--" She gasped, reaching her arm up to him. She begged for him to help her--to hold her. "Please," She breathily spoke, hands shaking. Kai willingly dropped to his knees and pulled her into his lap. He was fascinated by her and all her beauty, even when she was in pain. The man wanted to soothe her pain, love her, and hold her--yet, he believed he was incapable of any of those. Being needed for once made him feel powerful and more confident--maybe one day, he will be able to make Kennedy feel like how Sven did.
"What's going on?" Was all he could ask before she passed out. Her warm eyes rolled into the back of her head and her body went limp. Kai scanned her face, utterly aghast and perplexed at her sudden outburst. Gently, he dragged his fingers against her neck in search of a pulse. There was no doubt he was captivated by her and all she offered to him. Stroking her cheek with his thumb softly, he picked her up underneath her arms and legs and carefully placed her in the passenger seat. Her head rolled around, brown strands falling in front of her face.
He sat in the driver's seat and stole a quick glance at the knocked out cold girl. All he wanted to do was to get to know her, but how does he do that? He knew small details about her that she probably forgotten by now. He was used to the feeling of being alone and the idea of Kennedy having feelings for others reminded him that she will never be his, despite the red strings unknotting and meeting, finally.
an: I know it's a short chapter, kind of a filler. just wanted y'all to catch a glimpse of Kennedy's life in Mystic Falls and more of what Kai knows. Character development? Slightly? Maybe. Either way, two updates in a week! Cheers to that! Hope y'all have a safe Halloween. For given reasons, this book is AU timeline for the TVD. I've had to shift events to make everything line up better for the story, so hopefully I can clear that up as much as I can without confusion.
